Hey Mr. Vertical, do you use the stock slw hub mounting hardware? If not what do you use. Can't wait to do this I just started spinning my hexes and now I don't have to get new rims!"thumbsup"

Thanks for the thread. "thumbsup"
I bookmarked it a while back but I am about to do this to my 1.9's Axials very soon.
I don't have any DH hubs so I am just going to use a smaller drill bit and carefully drill through some 225 hubs I rarely use.

The 225 hubs are 4-40, I used a bit from 3mm tap. then go back and thread it for 4-40.

I would us a 5/64 drill bit first so you don't hert the threads then us a 1/8 drill bit on the rims, then you should be good to go "thumbsup"

Yea, I was thinking a 5/64th as mentioned below cause the ~2.5mm bit was tight and knowing me I would be chewing up the threads on the hub if I used that one.

For you lite weight rig.
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334285370
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334285364
I use a 1/8 drill bet and a old VP hub.
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334285356
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334285351
Then use a 15/32 drill bet.
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334285345
To clean it up use a body rimmer.

I just drilled the 1.9's to fit the SLW hubs. I'll post up the after pictures once I get the longer 4-40 screws.

Thanks again for the thread.

Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs

Well, I started to do this mod the night before the first comp. BIG MISTAKE! While this is easy and seems to have gone fairly well I found that the axial 1.9 rims are too thick and the stock slw hardware does not reach. I didn't have any 4/40 screws and I didn't have enough 3m (plus I didn't want to bother retapping all the hub holes to 3m). The other problem I'm now having is no-one local sells any 4/40 hardware so it looks like I'm going to have to retap to 3m any way. But I do have to say I mocked one wheel up last night and it looks FRIGGIN AWSOME! Thanks for this mod and I'll be sure to take some photos when I'm done."thumbsup"

I just ran into the same issue. I found these! I think they should work with up to a 350 hub. I had a buddy clear out the hobby shop of black 4-40 and I had to cut them all down. The silver is going to pop on the black wheel once they come in.

4-40 1/2'' is what I used. Luckly I had enough to do 2 sets of wheels.
