very good idea. So drill out the stock back ring for 3mm and make a new front face correct? and add in the spacers for the width you want too.

Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs

All right here we go first drill out the old holes to 1/8
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597061
Then cut out the center.
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597058
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597054
Next i use a cut off wheel for a dremal you can get at the hardware store.

Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs

So fare so good.
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597043
To make sure it's flat i use a milling bet.
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597039
The next step you'll need a 2 5/8 hole saw.
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597036
Make sure your drill is at low speed .
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597032
Then take your old rings clap it to the new ring and use a 1/8 drill ,drill them out at the same time after you drill one hole use a old 3mm to keep it lined up.

Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs

For the next step mount your new ring to a piece of wood. Then you need a 15/32 drill bet to drill out the new ring to fet the slw hub.dhttp://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597014
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597011
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334597007
Now take your body reemer just to make it fet just right.

Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs

I have a doner hub for this, drill it out to 1/8.

http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334596992
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334596988
Now you have all the part you need you can use axial spacers of cut out some delrin or aluminum.
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334596982
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334546484
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334546457
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334546457
http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1334546431
And there you have it .

This good mod for me since I have run 8mm wide hex to clear my TSS,MSD wheels. But with the axial's I can run normal width hex. It looks like I could run SCX10 narrow hex now.

Awesome mod for sure! "thumbsup"

This is a really awesome Tech thread! Thanks for making it!

P.S. You sure its a 2-5/8" hole saw and not a 2-3/8" hole saw?? 2-5/8" seems awfully big for a 2.2 disk.

Turbo...
hole saw's are measured outside to outside of the teeth...
and take about 3/16" cut out of the material, so you are left with less than the hole saw's outer measurement.........

that would be my guess why that size......

Nah, I knew they were measured for O.D., I just didnt realize they took off that much material between I.D and O.D.

Thanks for the clarification.
