Default Cutting Foams

Do you have any tips/tricks for cutting foams? I am cutting down some 2.2 foams to stiffen up my 1.9 tsl (heavy scaler). Is there a way to make sure they stay round. Do you smash them flat and cut?
thanks for the help

Put em on a 2 1/2" hole saw bit, chuck bit in drill press, turn on drill press, cut with razor blade for slices, use a 40 grit flap disc on a grinder to reduce the diameter.

sorry for digging up an old threaf but i was wondering if anyone had an easier way to cut out some foams with soft foam a tiny bit stiffer then a stock 2.2 hammer foam.. i just bought a set of used wheels to try my hand at making foams but damn using an exacto knife and scissors take a while just to get the general shape even.

thanks for any input.

If you have some basic wood working tools you can make a wood framed hot wire cutter pretty easy. Lots of vids on YouTube on it.

The tip about the 2,1/2" hole saw drill bit works like a charm. i used the exacto to cut them to the width i wanted, and held some sand paper to get them to the proper diameter. As it spins use a sharpie to make a line where you want your cuts then just have some patience. By the way i did all of this on my hand drill with a rubber band around the trigger since i dont have a drill press.....yet

i have a drill press and hole saws but wouldnt the hole saw tear chunks of the foam as its cutting?? i thought about taking a big hole saw (like a 4" or something) and using a hand drill in reverse and set the foam on the shop floor with a chunk of plywood under it and drill away.. i have lots of foam so maybe i'll experiment the best way to do it on scrap stuff first when i get home from town. thanks for the help guys.. this is for 2.2 foams.

No you are using the hole saw bit inside the foam to hold it and working on the width and diameter with the exacto, or sand paper.
