What would be a better tire for crawling, Giant tracs on slightly narrowed rims, or jumbo swamp dawgs on standard size mazz rims?

Giant Tracs are tough to beat but Jumbo Swamps are the only tire I have used that are even close. My rig did really well at the Utah and Colorado comps with JSD's.

I know that Pinchy mentioned that the Krocks are his second or third favorite tire. I would agree that in warm weather, the Krock is very hard to beat. You do have to do some major trimming to make them work but they are a much better tire than originally thought. I love the LST's too. Great all around tire. So much of these conversations on tires are missing a major factor: Weight. Every tire will perform differently on different trucks. Clods vs. shafties is a perfect example. Clods typically weigh a lot less than a shafty which will change things when reviewing a tire. Keep that in mind. Also, the way the traction works between a shafty and a clod will have an affect on tire performance. I haven't used Swamp Dogs on my Clod but when using them on my shafty trucks, I only thought of them as a marginally good tire. But I would believe Griz in saying that they perform excellent on a clod. I have seen the SD in action with the Swampers and it did seem to do very, very well.

Ok, so what about LST's on a clod, are teh better than giant tracs? I would like to get a tire that has amazing traction, and a pretty big. The GT get the traction, but are a little too small IMO.

Like Digs said, there are alot of factors to consider. LST's kick ass too, they werked real well on TSD. Different tires perform better in different terrains and situations. When I ran my LST's in Utah, they got me up some obstacles that the guys with JSD's and Giant Tracs struggled with. And the LST's struggled on one section that the GT's got up. ![]() My JSD's got me up some obstacles that the LST's couldn't when I was at Crawlstock. No tire is perfect in EVERY situation but LST's, JSD's, GT's all werk great in most situations. KROCK's, Savage GTs, MGT's, and others can work well in the right situations.

heres my 2 cents. i ran LSTs for a half hour and was not impressed, the rubber was to bouncy. when your watching other trucks at a comp you need to take into account the driver and his radio, because that will make a difference in the trucks ability which will sway your assesment in a tires ability. the giant tracs have been the most impressive but its not the tread pattern its the Proline M2 compound. Im not sure that grizz has driven the giant tracs that much and i respect him for that he just knows how to drive and if he had a set i dont think i would compete

there are just too many factors in picking the ultimate tire. Foams or no foams vehicle weight shaft or clod driver or driver style radio pnuematic, semi pnuematic, etc tread pattern cut or not narrowed or not weather / hot or cold terrain, rocky, smooth, sandy, snow, rain, etc Just use what works for you. Personally....I own most of the tires made and I just switch to what works best for the terrain I'm on that particular day.
