Default To shave or not to shave?

I see most folks who run competitive shave the sidewalls of there tyres.
Some say its for weight others say for side wall flex/wrinkles.

Do you folks think a smooth sidewall is worth loosing the lugs? (why?)

Could we not loose the weight somewhere else, keep the lugs an get our tyers to shape to the rocks out of our foam configuration?

An if any of you have experience makin photobucket work with kindle fire I would love to share picks of my rig.

Thanks for the time an advice.

I have run my Rover's both ways and I prefer to have shaved sidewalls. I didn't do it for weight or flex. I did it mainly for those situations where you get in a hole and the side lugs catch the rock face and push your rig backwards or into a roll over. I've been in plenty of spot where shaved sidewalls allowed me to finish a line a lot cleaner. You can also squeeze a little more clearance on some gates.

^^^ what he said. I have had a tire in a hole or up against a wall where the top edge of the tire tread on the sidewall snags something and it basically sucks the tire way deeper into the hole. Or the case of brushing up against a rock face or something, It can snag and pull the truck all over the place. Smooth sidewalls allows you to slide past most things with nothing bad happening. I have kept the sidewalls only on the inside of the front tires. We have lots of ledges and I personally like how they grab with the inner front sidewall treads there. I"m running white dot rovers.
