| 1.9 Growler Review First impressions: they are Pitbull tires. Soft and sticky, they stick to the bag and almost refuse to come out. Great tread pattern but the lugs seem very close together. Foams are dual stage open cell with a fairly firm inner and a medium outer. Size: they are similar to 1.9 TTC Baja Claws. The foams make them bulbous. Despite the flat tread surface without the foam, the tires swell mid tread. Sidewalls seem thick enough to grab well inside most (actual) beadlocks. These are mounted on Gear Head 1.9 12 Hole delrin wheels. During mounting I did have issues with beads slipping on the first wheel. This was more from establishing the purchase and dealing with the large foams. Crawler Innovations is definitely receiving a Deuces Wild Single Stage inquiry shortly. Weight used on the wheels consisted of 4.5 ounces in each front, 3 ounces in each rear; all flat lead weights. Some of the foam interference during installation was due in part to the space utilized by the weights. Also, the Gear Head wheels seem a bit thin compared to these tires. They look great as a combo, but be aware of the moderate mounting interference because of that difference. Of course I had to try them out. Nine o'clock in our neighborhood is fairly quiet so some mild running on concrete sidewalk, rough asphalt, flat loose rocks, and sandy hard pan was done at moderate speed. Not much can be said except that hard surfaces definitely result in traction roll. On the flat rocks these tires seemed to slide the rocks from underneath the rig. But the loose sandy surface on our hard pan driveway was impressive. The amount of grip mixed with moderate slip during turns really have me consider running Terra X 1.9 for next years AxialFest. Further testing on mixed textures of lava rock, loose to hard transitions, and much of the terrain we normally shoot in our vids will be happening very soon. My team mate actually won them at AxialFest and they were too big for his rig. Traded him a set of Rockbeasts with CI foams.

My only qualm is the close tread pattern. Gonna test with stock tread and foams for at least a month before getting CI foams and possibly snipping a few lugs. Steven G. at CKRC was running Madbeasts with the smaller outer lugs trimmed and dubbed them "Mad Swampers". HUGE improvement on overall performance. These will be seeing trail duty as I rebuild the Scout from AxialFest. Normally this truck is more on rock bouncer and hill climb duty but I'll definitely hit as much varied terrain and traction as possible. |

Short run last night (vid coming soon) with pretty positive results. On a mix of rough and smooth lava rock, some dry and loose transitions to hard surface, and a few short steep inclines I am impressed so far with these tires. This rig has had many tires and compounds under it and so far this has become a new favorite. I can foresee issues in loose/sandy conditions but we will face those issues when they happen.

They look like they are doing pretty well. I'm guessing they will get better the more you use them. You think the foams are better than past pitbull foams? Just form feeling them they seem better to me.

I always thought the old outers were too soft. With the slim width of the Gearheads these new foams are just on the edge of overstuffed but nothing like the terrible fit on Swampers with stock foams. If the tires or wheels were vented I think a heavier rig would easily fold these new foams over.
