cut n shut is an aussie term for narrowing tires.
I don't think we should use that term around here in the good old USA!!!!!
hahahahaha

Remember....don't just use the IC2000. Use some type of softer silicon based Goop to seal up the inside of the tire. Then fill in the gaps with the IC2000 on the tread area.

those friggin aussies...

is there a real good link to how to do this? i was thinking cut the tires, duh, and then join/tack them with the ic2000 then slap some shoegoo type stuff on the inside. i dont really follow how to seal the inside first then use the ic2000.

i swear i'm not an idiot. theres just so much talk about cut tires but not alot of concrete info on exactly how to do it.

Could also use bicycle innertube inside the tire to patch the seam. ;)

cool, thanks peeps. i learned more in this post than i did tryin to research and pick thru all the voodo stuff.

ordered me 3 bottles of the ic2000. kongs gonna get narrowed for my x-factor toilet tuber, and gonna narrow some swamp dawgs for the boyer rig, and lol maybe narrow my masher2ks for my tlt.

i remember right when i saw the first narrowed kong of dirks i was all jazzed to do it, then came along the ws6.

First of all, Hoopty....tack the two halves back together with quick dry CA, not the IC2000. IC2000 dries slowly.

I used Goop sealant on the insides of the tires. Very good bonding!

Thumbs up got it

ahhhh, alright.

quick summary.

1. cut tires

2. prep cuts and inside of tire halves with alchohol. (this is a given when applying any sticky stuff imo...)

3. tack tire halves together with quick drying ca, let dry.

4. prep inside of tire halves with alchohol again, in case any finger oils managed to get in there. better safe than sorry imo.

5. spread silicon adhesive, goop or whatever on the inside of the tire, possibly using some scrap rubber from a bicycle tube or whatnot. (and if you use a piece of rubber on the inside, clean that puppy with alchohol ;) ), let dry

6. prep outside section between cuts with alchohol.

7. apply ic2000 in the gap between the 2 tire halves, let dry.

i'm sure when i try this i'll learn some stuff, but i would imagine it wouldnt hurt to tack the 2 halves together with ca, then apply the ic2000 on the seam from the inside before getting it with the goop. possibly get just a little better adhesion that way.

thanks for the help peeps.

Default FG glue

I have raced in one-fifth scale for 7 years, and we used to cut front tires in half to combine different compounds, inner and outer.
The glue is sold by FG Modellsport item nš 6509/1, and is suitable for rubber-rubber glueings.
Glues fast and is flexible.
With patience you can make a clean job.

I have never seen anyone try using some glue used to patch tires and tubes. A vulcanizing glue. Maybe from an auto parts store?????????

I just cut'n'shut a LST tire.

I split the tire in half down the molded seam with a razor blade, marked off 1/2" around each of the halves, then cut the tires with a set of scissors. I couldn't find my IC2000 so I used BSI's Insta-Flex. Insta-Flex is the same basic deal as IC2000 (rubberized CA) but it's clear and is said to set in 5-15 seconds.

We'll see how it goes. I'm just using the Insta-Flex to tack the two halves together for now.

How about you ask an an Aussie how to do it since he was the first to ever do it.

ME

LOL

Just ask Diggler who he used to ask how to do it ...Ey Digger.

Try not to put too much goop inside the tyre other wise you will end up with a stiffer area in the centre of the tyre compared to every where else.(dirk doesnt need to worry about this stuff cause he has trouble getting a stiff area)I wouldnt use the inner tube for the same reason.
I used Sikaflex windscreen urethane to seal the tyre from the inside ,preping it with isopropolene before hand,no need to prep it until sealing it cause the CA glue doesnt need preping.
Urethane sets like rubber and bonds to it as one unit making sure it moves well and doesnt get stiff. It doesnt need much ,just a light wipe over.

For glueing your "tyres" (LOL) back together, I used IC200 around the seam. I just used a very light "bead" of IC, then carefully positioned my tyres together. After I had it almost perfectly lined up, I used a 5 pound weight on it. I then went back around it to finalize my perfectness on the seam. The weight helps to hold it together when adjusting the seams. Once it was "perfect", I added two 10lb. weights and let it sit overnight. Next morning it appeared that just the IC200 would work. I had purchased some tire patch glue, called "rubber cement" that is used for patching tires and tubes on automotive stuff. I got it at local auto store. Layed a good coating on the inside seam. Not too much though. Before I had glued the two halves together, I sanded the inside surfaces and cleaned em, because they are easier to get to. On 1 tyre, I used the rubber cement, this tyre flexes awesome on the seam. On a spare, I used GOOP. This tyre is not so flexy at the seam. From now on, I am using rubber cement.

Any decent hobby shop will carry thin, medium or thick CA glue. Use thin to tack and get some goop type silicone at Home Depot and smear that on the inside of the cut liberally. It's all I've done to my Kongs and they're holding up great.
