| trepador and vaterra tires
I have had the stock trepador tires on my scx10 for awhile now and just decided to try some vaterra twin hammers tires I got on ebay cheap. They are smaller but i seem to be able to make it over my pile of rocks and concrete easier with the vaterra's. Are they a better tire or is it a foam thing. The vaterra's foam seems to be stiffer as far as i can tell. Just thought the trepador tires where supposed to be really good. |

stock for stock... The Vaterra foams are wayyyyy too stiff and the Trepador foams are too soft. I've seen Trepadors pull some great lines with more supportive foam. I've been curious about twin hammer tires but haven't run them on an scx to actually try them.

Try some better/firmer foams in the trepadors. I've ran both,..treps all the way!

Ok will have to try some new foams. I'm guessing CI foams? Been on the Web site. ... so many to choose from. I see they give weight recommendation, are those accurate for what i should get?

| Re: trepador and vaterra tires The stock foams in my Trepadors are pretty much shot, and sag heavily, due to running weighted alloy beadlocks, after just a few weeks. I've had a few sidewall failures, and luckily it was not up on a steep trail. I ordered the Lil' Nova 1.9 Dual Stage 4.50T pack, based on what I read in another thread.

I emailed Eddie at CI and he recommend the following for my rig. 4.25" Lil' Nova Med outer front Firm outer rear I have been running this combo in my treps and they are working awesome. Email Eddie at CI. He will give you his recommendation based on the type of driving you do and the weight of your rig. |

I haven't tried the Vaterra's, but I love my Trepadors. I was prepared to buy something else based on some of the comments I have seen, but they seem to handle the majority of terrain where I live. My only issue with them is sidehilling, and they are not awesome in loose dirt. I have run them on rock, dry clay, hard packed black dirt, and they climb awesome. They continually impress me on those surfaces. Get the truck going a little sideways though and they roll over. I picked up some CI 4.5 softs in hope the sidewall will hold up better. I should be able to test them this weekend...can't wait.

Swap the foams between the tires (assuming they are both stock) The slightly harder compound of the Vaterra tire works better with the softer foam, and the trep will benefit from the harder foam in the Vaterra tire. Give it a shot before dropping some coin. Found it improved both sets of tires quite a bit. |
