| Proline Swamper TSL-SX XL Foam Setups
I realize there is an entire thread on the new Proline super swamper. I started this one specifically to talk about foam setups. I'm going to order a set of these and I won't be using the stock foams. Looking for setups being run and any advice. I was hoping Eddie at Crawler Innovations would have these already in stock with a foam recommendation, but nothing yet. I'm concerned that the Dueces Wild tall won't be tall enough (they weren't for the Mickey Thompson radials). Also if a Double Duece 6.0 is tall enough or how many tuning rings it might take. Dna |

I have a nip set still and have seen a couple of set up mounted. My idea (that I haven't tried yet) is the deuces wild tall foams with a layer of the Proline bed mattress foams to take up the extra space. I do like your idea of the double deuce with tuning rings though. |

Dana .. I've been playing with TSL-SX and 6.0 DD foam they needed a ring to fill up the space. So the XLs woud defiantly have some extra space to fill. I think Crank's idea of slicing up the stock Proline foam would work well. Or get a special order from Eddie Fisher at Inovation.

The stock foams are kind of stiff and too large, I guess slicing them in half would be ok? Trying to fit the stock yeti rims into it and oh boy what a work out.

I went to hobby lobby and got a chunk of 4 inch thick foam and cut about 1 inch over and they work perfect for my 10 pound wraith and for 12 bucks for 2 sets you can play around with different sizes to fit your needs

Tires showed up on Thursday and spent the next 2 hours installing them. Just like many on the tire thread these are more difficult to install than most any other tire. Not impossible just difficult. These are on TSS trail ready 2.2. I did a dry fit wit the DW tall and it did seem to fill the tire sufficiently, very similar to a pit rb2. Going with this FTW Then I put a double deuce 6.0 medium in the front. Much better than the stock hard as heck foams that come with these. Third pic down shows the tire unmounted but with dd foam vs stock foam. Here are the pics. So far these things are great. I didn't soak them in simple green or even clean off the mold release film. Well let the rocks do that lol. I love the looks and only time will tell on performance. Dna Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Last edited by dna4engr; 10-18-2014 at 06:00 AM. |

I just got a set of the 1.9 for my Losi Mini Pro today. The foams they send with them are stupidly oversized. I ended up using my stock Losi foams My other question is. did they change the size on these tires? The new one are taller than my originals I dont mind, but curious. |

Yes the XL version is a bigger version of the standard TSL tire.

i've got the 1.9 XLs with the deuces wild single stage foams. they work GREAT. side hilling is easy, and its got enough play in the tire that its not too hard on the rocks.

I just purchased my second set of these. They will have the same setup as my first set - CI single stage foams. I was skeptical at first with such a hard foam, but after using them for several months I'll have to say I'm very impressed. I already knew the swamper was a good tire, but with the CI foams inside they work exceptionally well for the terrain in my area.

Only wheels I've used with proline swampers are (standard size 2.2 for all but the TSS, those got the 2.2 XLs) Axial rockster beadlocks, worked well Motorworx 8 hole beadlocks, worked well TSS trail readys, pain to mount but have really worked well so far CI 6 bolt, glue on and worked well For all setups I've used crawler innovations foams except the motorworx wheels. For the XLs, there is no way you are going to mount with the stock foams. Proline should ship them without foams as far as I'm concerned. Dna Last edited by dna4engr; 11-10-2014 at 09:04 PM. |

Yeah, it's a pain to mount them. I have gotten good at it, after doing it almost daily...

I installed the DW in my XL TSl's, and they mounted up easy. Now, these are advertised for a 8+lb rig. Mine at the time was weighing in barely over 6lbs. I did some cutting and hacking on the foams to soften them up a bit. I also run 4.5oz in each front wheel. I'm pretty dang happy with this set up right now. My rig has gained a bit of weight, but I'm sure it's not up to 8lb yet. It climbs really well, and side hills great too. The weird part is the tires won't wrinkle up like a pitbull tire will, but they still hook up. First I siped the outer edge with my dremel cut off wheel. Then I used a 5/16" drill bit and punched some holes, evenly spaced. This definitely helped soften things up. Like someone stated before, these DW foams do leave some moving around room for the tire to conform on the rocks. The trail/dirt traction kicks butt too. I just got the super swamper xl 2.2 for my wraith. And I am about to buy new wheels, and foams. Wondering if anyone had an opinion on what's best. I am kinda new to crawlers. Thanks.

What's your budget? The best wheels for ProLine tires, IMO, are Gear Head wheels. They look amazing, they're a good width (unlike some wheels that are way too narrow), and they easily mount and hold the ProLine tires. They are around $130 to $160 per set of 4 though. If that is too expensive, the plastic ProLine wheels are nice and hold the bead well. Unlike a lot of people, I think ProLine knows what they're doing and the stock foams have worked well for me. You can definitely start with the stock foams and change them later. When choosing aftermarket foams, you must know the weight of your rig RTR (including the battery). | |

I couldn't get the stock foams to work well for me. They were just way too stiff, I ended up using some proline foams from a set of chisel tires. They worked great but are now to the point of being non existent. No sidewall support at all anymore. I recint ordered some CI foams, which was kind of a challenge to decided on which ones to get. I know they say to choose by weight, but for the life of me I couldn't find any kind of weight chart on their website. I have a heavy rig, but like my tires soft enough to squat and conform to terrain. I went with the DW 2.2-6.0 comp cut standard softs for the front, and mediums for the rear. I figured I could add or remove weight as needed to get them to work how I like.
