Question Axial "Trail Ready" bead lock inquiry

bought a used set on a whim

the seller failed to send the hubs with the wheels.
claims they were forgotten... and I'm still waiting

Didn't realize the center adapter were direct pin mount design.
Not sure I'll be liking that.
I'd have preferred wheels using the 12mm hex

But I paid for them... so might as well use them.

Question is...

Will I need extra pins because I'll be losing mine
just about every time I change a wheel ??? grr

Has anyone found an alloy adapter that can replace the plastic centers ?
I saw some on rc4wd for their 6 lug steel wagon wheels...
but it doesn't reference the lug pattern equations

any body here know something ?

thx if ya do

Those should have a Vanquish SLW bolt pattern.

1.9"/2.2" 6 Lug Steel Wheel Hex Hub +6 Offset

-----------------
edit:

on ebay for $ 11. shp'd :crosses fingers:

The Trail Ready wheels are part of the Axial IFD series just like the Method, the 12mm hex hubs (#AX31266) and 12mm hex hub conversion (#AX31074) are for the IFD series wheels. They should fit without a problem. No idea if Vanquish hubs or RC4WD hubs will fit.

If it's the same as the Axial Method wheels, the VP SLW hubs will fit.

...alloy would be nice

but the thing that turns me off...
is that VP lists 4-40 thread for the lugs
instead of mm. (fm what I saw on their site)

I personally don't want that mix.

Its a whole 30 bucks for VP hubs plus a couple of extra bucks for that 4-40 hardware (yes , they actually use SAE. The crappy plastic hubs that came on those wheels on the yeti were M3).

I've used the plastic ones for over a year on my scx10 with Holmes hobbies electronics an not broken one. I also pull a trailer with my sons dingo on it. We' trail run at the golf course daily. The extra set I have is plastic. I agree with you about the vp cost. There stuff is good but with me my son and wife running rc's we don't buy much vp

where's this Harley video ?

I looked... but he has too many posts
and I'm not sure which thread it may be in !?

folk... realize these are budget wheels...
and I have little interest in spending a small fortune on them.

I really wish to go with a tire nearer 6" tall...
But rc4wd's interco tsl is the tallest 2.2 @ 5.75", that I know.

That in mind... wasn't really wanting to go 3.8" wheels
as those tires are too tall and require using adapters
to make those fit a 12mm hex or use a 14 -17mm hex and appropriate wheel.
Costly investment I'll think to guess.

Not even sure a Wraith drive train can be geared low enough
for larger tire use !? :dunno:

btw... I'm building a 1/6 scale jeep bodied crawler...
and that is the reason for wanting the taller tires.

These idf 2.2 wheels will work for now.
'cause they were cheap to obtain. sorta.

But I'm not sure if rc4wd interco 5.75" tires will fill the wheel wells
as much as I would like.

Anyone know if the rc4wd interco's might fit the idf wheels decently ?

here's my 1/6 scale mocked up with the stock Wraith 2.2 ripsaw tires/wheels.
But I'm going to use 5 1/4" BFG Krawler tires mounted on the idf's.
^ at least for the mock up/build.
(the wheel offset will be slightly wider then in these pics)

I'm attempting a scale look... but larger then a Wraith
but not going for a monster truck look either.

I had the pin and hex axial plastic hubs on my wraith. I stripped both versions within 3, 2s lipos. If you have a heavy weight rig with any power whatsoever, you will need to go to proper slw's.

As a side note, I had very poor luck with the ifd bl, it threw a bead on losi comp claws, rc4wd boggers and pl tsl xl's. I got axial rockstars with the tsl xl's and have had 0 issues.

Jconcepts Scorpios in 2.2 are 5.98 in tall. While not a licensed tire, they have a pretty scale all terrain tire pattern.

While I'll be using 3s...
I generally gear low and crawl slow
so hopefully I'll get away with it... for awhile anyways.

Yeah I've read that some tires don't keep a bead.
But in one of those reads... someone said the Proline tsl xl's held. hmmm

maybe I'll try using a little E6000 and see if that helps !?

I bought a couple sets of the trail ready 2.2''

and I bought the Vanquish .475 SLW hubs

and I'm using Axial hubs that come in the Wraith kit

and I went McMasters and order the black 4/40 for the hubs

and have not had any problems with them

Which off set did you use ?

4/40 still blows on an all metric rig... ALIMO

My LHS sells 4/40 so no big deal...
but then I'd need another ball driver

thanks for the verification that they work

what do mean by offset

I'm using .475 SLW hubs

cause when I bought the rims they came with the plastic hubs or hexes or what ever you call them
they give you a short hub and a long hub

they are for my Wraith and the short hubs were to short the rims rubbed on the knuckles

and the long hubs were to long the wheels stuck out and just didn't look right to me

the Vanquish SLW .475 hubs are in between are the perfect hub length for my setup and I like the width

Vanquish make several different length hub or hexes

and they are 4/40 you need 24 four rims a set

McMasters sells them in boxes of 50 or 100

oh my bad... I miss read your prior posting's description.

not sure how... was plain as day.

The wheel's backspacing remains what ever it is... ? :dunno:

offset is basically determined by the length of the hubs
and how far out board the wheels fit beyond the axles hex's.

Vanquish offers several different slw hub offsets.

sooo....

.475 is closest to what the factory plastic hubs offer ?

sorry I don't have the original plastic hubs for comparison... yet

I ordered some new... but not the original pin mount...
instead the hex conversion type.

meh... if they break...
I give the VP slw hubs a try.

the ones that came with my rims

where the pin type

and the .475 were in between

the short and long plastic hubs

that came with the rims

I used .475 for the fronts and backs rims

I have seen some guys using a .475 hub in the front and a .600 hub in the rear on there Wraiths

VP hubs Yes, RC4WD hubs No. You can catch vp hubs in the for sale section for a discount sometimes. At the least, do the rear. Or you can get Axial service pack for wheel hexes, hubs, and pins (search that one)

folk... realize these are budget wheels...

the wheels work great
I really wish to go with a tire nearer 6" tall...
But rc4wd's interco tsl is the tallest 2.2 @ 5.75", that I know.
the RC4 Interco tires that I have work great as well, they beaded nicely and have not had any issue losing a bead. Take your time and get the front face all the way seated. I actually pulled my tire back a little during mounting so the face sits in the pocket of the tire, if that makes sense, other wise it pulls in more than just the bead surface. When tightening the screws use a cross pattern like any other wheel so they cinch down evenly. I use 1/2 turns in a triangle pattern

Not even sure a Wraith drive train can be geared low enough
for larger tire use !? :dunno:
I'm running 58/8 x Titan 21t and it's great for crawling.

These idf 2.2 wheels will work for now.
'cause they were cheap to obtain. sorta.
I have 3 sets now (1 TR, 2 Methods), and I love them. I just wish I could die them or change the color for vairety

But I'm not sure if rc4wd interco 5.75" tires will fill the wheel wells
as much as I would like.

Anyone know if the rc4wd interco's might fit the idf wheels decently ?
yes excellently!!

that's good to know... thanks for sharing that.

Hope this helps
