| 6 lug wheels on a Bronco; blasphemy?
I want to buy my son some 2.2" black steel wheels for his E10 with a '73 Bronco body on it, but all of the ones that I have found use a 6 lug SLW type hub. He wants "big tires" otherwise I'd step down to 1.9"s that are 5 lug. I've been favoring the Hot Racing wheels (the ones with a fake valve stem.) Will I be smote for running 6 lug on an old Ford, or does anyone know of 5 lug 2.2" black steel beadlocks?

Not sure that there are any 5 lug steel wheels in 2.2, but there are some pretty sweet 5 lug 1.9's. There are a few 2.2 5 lug's in aluminum, like Dick Cepek and some decent looking ones from China. Check ebay for those. Look at RC4WD and RPP for the 2.2's and 1.9's. If you are seriously set on big tires, there are some quite large 1.9's that look good. Check those sites I mentioned, and get a feel for what's there...lots of choices for 1.9's. Alot of folks run 6 lug wheels for Bronco's because, for the most part, there aren't very many 5 lug for the smaller scales. In the end, when your rig is haulin butt, you can't count the lugs anyway. |

Anyone that pays that much attention to a toy truck needs to see a shrink.

| Re: 6 lug wheels on a Bronco; blasphemy? Toyota axles are a smaller version of the Hotchkiss axle from GM. Toyota didn't start using that design until the late 40's when GM was involved with rebuilding Japanese industry. Guess who they shared designs with? The original fj40 engine shared parts with the 215 chevy I6 and the trans face pattern was the same as GM used too which is why small blocks were a popular and easy swap into them. It makes perfect sense if you know the history. |

My point would hold more water if gm hadn't stopped using the Hotchkiss design in '72. |

| Re: 6 lug wheels on a Bronco; blasphemy? Isn't that the whole point of a "scaler", to be as true to scale as possible? I guess the majority of users here need to see a shrink? I know I'm talking about parts for my soon to be 6 year old's entry to rc, not a highly detailed rig like so many I've seen here. I have no intentions of putting his Bronco on radius arms and rear leafs or scratch building a 3 on the tree steering column, but if I can buy 5 lug wheels instead of 6, that would be one more detail that he would really get a kick out of. I think I've got him talked into 1.9"s and small(er) tires now anyway which really opens up the 5 lug options.

If you put BIG tires on your truck you are probably running some beefier axles so the number of lug nuts is not a biggie. I wish there were 6 or 8 lug stamped steel inner beadlock 1.9 dually wheels. |

The rc4wd deep dish 1.9"s look like they'll fit the bill. I hate chrome wheels on 1:1, but they might help with the retro look in this case. Gmade has some steelies that look exactly like the old stock Ford wheels... but they're 6 lug. I'm still in awe at the amount of options out there, it certainly doesn't make the decision easy!

I just built a scale version of a guy's old Bronco, and the 6 lug wheels I ended up having to go with are driving me nuts. For the ones of us that need a shrink because we care a little to much about the small details like this, this is an annoyance that ends up being all I see when I look at my scaler. When building you have complete creative control over every single detail except for the damn number of tiny nuts on your tiny wheels. I even tried to get a custom set of wheels made. The guy told me he could do anything I wanted, but it would be with 6 lugs. It's a fawking conspiracy. 5 lugs matter |

Or find some in 8 lug, then it's had a one ton swap! That's what I had to do to mine.
