Default BoomRacing 2.2 Krait wheels

I got my hands on the new 2.2 Kraits and got a chance to try them out yesterday running U4RC. My first impressions were all positives. The anodizing is beautiful, the machining is clean, and the fit is great. I like that they come assembled, the outer ring is removable but all those screws are already installed. I checked them and no loosies. Also, the screws are recessed and sit flush with the ring so they won't grab on the rocks. Another highlight is the delrin inner ring. I like delrin and this piece is great. The wheels come with 8mm wideners, which I used, but they also fit with no wideners and clear the knuckles just fine. Another nice touch is the center hub caps to clean up the finished product. I didn't want to scratch them up or worse yet lose one so I didn't run these in the races.

I mounted up my Proline KR2s in just a couple of minutes. The three piece wheel is held together with 5 screws. As often as I change tires around, I will never go back to old fashioned beadlocks again.

I'm using the CI standard DW foams for my racing setup. This wheel tire combo is perfect as far as fitment goes. The bead holds tight and there is zero gap between the tires and the rings.

I love my 1.9 Krait wheels. Boom does not get the credit they deserve.

Great review...but where did you get them? I can't find them in 2.2 anywhere on Boom Racing or Asiatees.

^^^ I couldn't find them, either.....

Those Krait's are gorgeous, almost too pretty to run off-road!

Myself, I prefer the Sandstorm style - be nice if I could find them in 2.2!

Nicely detailed center caps, too.

Boom Racing stuff is pretty dang sweet.

Just saw that they released HD AR60 Wraith RR10 Bomber Yeti & Score rear axles that are specifically designed to slip through their Kronik stainless/brass/aluminum axle tubes without any grinding down.

Only $9 and change!

Went ahead and ordered a set - maybe the steel won't be truly HD, but at that price - why not.

If I break them I'll stick in the kit axles I ground down - but I just don't know if I trust that I left enough material for them to not have slop.... I did stop and test repeatedly until they barely fit through the Kronik stainless tubes I have.

Got their BullRope RC rear upper shock mount and crossbar too, hope to mod the crossbar and use it as a radiator support.

Lol, I was going to try that as well but ended up going with JEC rear shock mounts on my 2nd bomber.

But yeah those 2.2s kraits are hiding because all I could find is 1.9s.

They do from me. I consider myself lucky because I met some guys from the company when they were in town for RCX and they wanted to do some crawling. They are super cool and dedicated to customer service. And they are innovative. I also tried the Sparta sway bar links for my scx and they were awesome.

I think I got the last set of prototypes for R&D. They are coming very soon! Hopefully they release them before you spend all your Christmas money.

I was just curious how axial tires would fit, so I pulled off the prolines and put on some rtr bomber takeoff KR2s. It only took 4 1/2 minutes including swapping foams and successful pull test. Not bad!

Is the hub removable? Can the circular section below the hex be removed to narrow the offset? Thanxs.

No, this is one single piece of aluminum.

Bummer....I was sold up until now. I want to be able to change the offset as required and the stock offset looks like it really pushes the wheels out.

I can install them without the wideners and measure overall width for you tomorrow. In the last picture, with the dirty raptor body, I have them mounted with the 5mm wideners.

These are wider than the stock glue on wheels, but not considerably. Overall I was about 3/8" wider than stock, or about 5mm per side.

Stock are on front, Kraits on rear.

Thanxs for the pics...These show that the offset isn't as bad as I thought it was from yesterday's photos. What's the overall width (outside sidewall to outside sidewall) on the AR60 axles?

That's perfect. The 2.2 Gearhead wheels on my Wroncho Bug with the narrowest offset hubs is 11 3/4 Inches too. Thanxs for the measurement.

I ran these with Axial R35s and the fit is just as good as the proline tires.

I'm going with an all new set up for the last race, so I put Pit Bulls on these wheels. Another great fit.

2.2 Kraits in both spoke styles and multiple colors finally showed up on AsiaTees :

Nice!

And serious value for the money... was looking at what comes with the pair and the rather unique engineering tricks used.

Nice looking wheels, but looks like 1.9s all sold with +8mm wideners, I want stock (near centered) offset and don't have need of any wideners.

The Sandstorm Krait look really good.

Edit: what size is the hardware on the outer ring and the 5 screws that hold the whole wheel together?
