Boomracing 1.9 Hustler tires

I got my hands on an early release of Boom's impressive scale tire, the Hustler MT/X. They come in 2 versions, soft and SUPER soft and also include 2 stage foams. Size is 4.45/1.57. They were easy to mount on Krait wheels (of course).
I tried the soft version first and was impressed at the traction they gave at my local spot. The foams fit well and kept the tire from folding over. I'm not weighting the wheels but have the heavy Phat axles on this rig. Next I tried the SUPER soft tires and was blown away. This is going to be my tire from now on for my scx10.2.

So dumb question....but in what situation would you not want the softest tire possible? It seems like the only down side would be how fast they wear out? I've never competed...nor do I have any friends that are into RC so I'm left to figure this stuff out on my own.

I always want the softest at the expense of faster wear.

If your rig is too heavy you would not want the softest tire, but these days that can be controlled with foams. So I'm with you. When would you not want the softest tire?

I think your logic is spot on. I've only had these tires for about a month, so I can't really say how fast they wear. But I'm going with the softer tire for crawling and I'll run the other one on my 1.9 yeti.

Huh. They look pretty good. Not sure about the sidewall but the tread face looks pretty agressive.

I'm guessing that just if you aren't doing serious crawling and only trailing then the longer wear of the harder compound would be more cost effective.

Anybody have a picture of the two stage foam these come with? Seeing these all over the internet this week but nobody is really talking about the foam. If the tire works AND the foam works for $50/set that's a deal. I also haven't heard a review from somebody who didn't get them early so I'll wait until they're in the hands of the people to make a decision about ordering.

From what I have been reading, tire softness can be used for different temperatures also. Softest tire in the colder weather and harder in hotter weather. And yes softer tires will wear out faster.

I've heard of this as well. One guy I talked to who crawled at worlds said Blue Voodoos were a necessity because the Silver/Gold pins just weren't working on the 100F+ days. I can't remember why but if anyone else has experienced that i'd be interested to know.

Those YouTubers have pre-release tires so they are obviously associated with or sponsored by AsiaTees and/or Boom Racing. So take those "reviews" with a grain of salt.

This is true for tires and some foams, believe it or not.

I'm in for a set.

Looks pretty nice and great to have more scale 1.9 tire options that are not huge! "thumbsup"

As mentioned for temperature. Too soft and thin tires are not good because the lugs actually fold over and lose traction like VooDoo Ottsix tires and that's not good.

I was thinking about that, but forget where that's at? Malaysia, Vietnam or? Just looked it up, Mombasa Kenya.

Dual stage foams look co-molded? As in molded or glued togehter?

I'm curious as well. I want to know how tall the closed cell foam is. I am guessing it goes up into the open cell section.

I also find it funny that a brand that specializes in undercutting the current prices on gear has released a tire that costs just as much as the other tires on the market. These will have to be REALLY good tires to move a lot of units for them.
