Why 1.9 ?????

So before 1.9s came out, it was 2.2 tires
Until one fine day someone thought of making a 1.9 tire... What's the reason for a 1.9 tire , is it for scale looks only .... Do they perform as good as a 2.2 tire?
Is the 1.9 tire a fairly new tire that came into the market ?
I'm also asking for the simple fact ,I'm gonna be purchasing a set of 1.9s, just don't know ,..... PL hyrax or the PL krawler...
They will be going on a set of beadlocks.. any opinion on either or tire ,or other than PL maybe another company.... Thanks guys

Re: Why 1.9 ?????

1.9s are more challenging to crawl with, generally less ground clearance (except now there are many ginormous 1.9 tires). Usually 1.9 rigs use narrower axles also for more scale appearance and crawling challenge. 2.2s get boring fast, 1.9s for the win. "thumbsup"

What are these going on?

Tire size aside, I just like the smaller rim. looks better on most of my builds

2.2.... no other changes.

And that is the difference...

Re: Why 1.9 ?????

It's more than just "someone decided to make a smaller tire" - Initially the hard core crawlers ran the 2.2's, and the scale crowd ran the 1.9's. But over the years the lines have been very blurred. Now it's more a matter of what size is your rig and what size wheel and combo do you want to run on it? The various size tires just give more options.

...2.2's can be very scale.

As can 1.9's

and 1.5's.

But no matter what a 2.2 tire will out perform the rest , or not really?

Re: Why 1.9 ?????

Not definitely.
A larger tire rolls over obstacles better and gives you better ground clearance,. But a poorly tuned/driven 2.2 rig can be beaten, sometimes easily with a good, well tuned 1.9 rig

Ya don't say?

If you need small tires to make something a challenge then you need to leave the pavement or just get into micro crawlers so a few pencils and a book will provide hours of fun right there on the kitchen table. :lmao:

If you want to conquer big obstacles you'll need big tires. A great driver with a good rig can climb lots of things but a decent driver with a halfway setup rig can beat them pretty handily. There is a reason super class rigs exist and it isn't because the drivers take the easy lines.

Not per-se. My 2.2, 1.9, and 1.5 trucks above all perform pretty much the same, it's just the size of the obstacles they can negotiate....clearly, they take on different lines. "thumbsup"

It's a toy grade body, wheel base is around 14-14.5 from memory.. I have one aswell because my 1:1 is a 2004 supercharged crew cab short bed frontier .. it's a fairly big body with tiny wheel wells .. pretty sure the toy it came from is long discontinued but the bodies still pop up on ebay from time to time

I really like my pitbull Rock Beast XLs. They're a 1.9 tire but they're 4.75" tall so somewhere between 19 and 2.2. they also have a non XL version.

I like these for both the functionality as well as the scale factor since you can buy these 1:1 tires from Pitbullhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6f866f0986.jpg

Well said, sometimes a bigger tire opens up new lines that are more challenging.

Also, from a historical perspective I would say that the 'first' widely adopted crawler rims where 2.6 clodbuster rims. Traxxas max, and 40 series were also prominent for awhile and then 2.2's started to be widely used with the TLT came out. 1.9's came from touring cars and were first seen on the Tamiya Hilux and later soft-roaders like the Tamiya hummer, Pajero, ect.

Negative. Some places dont have great terrain. I took my Class 2 to OKC while I was in school and it made everything easy and boring. I "had" to buy a TF2 to keep things interesting.

1.9s arent anything new. I remember gluing RC4WD tires on HPI stock tire rims not long after I joined here.

Re: Why 1.9 ?????

They're slightly more scale-accurate for smaller trucks, and both sizes (1.9" and 2.2") were already commonly-used in other RC niches, so it was easy to adapt them to rock crawlers.

I wish the 1.55 scene would blow up with more options. I like the small scale wheels with tires that have more sidewall

Re: Why 1.9 ?????

LOL I don't think RC truck tires are a big enough market to justify being called a "scene".
