| Using a light bulb to remove glued on rc tires from the wheels Quote:
I have new wheels coming tomorrow so i needed to try this. PROPS to rock hugger and Natedog, Thanks for the insight to this method 3 tires went perfect so I decided to capture the last on video so I had to hunt down the GoPro... Here is a video I made of this technique. I would not recommend trying this in your daughters easy bake ovens though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shAgrNEFQ7s Last edited by ScoJac; 11-27-2017 at 03:01 PM. Can't thank you enough for posting this. Hope it will work for mine... pre-glued cheapo tires/ wheels that I need to get the foam out of. Also curious regarding the tires/ wheels that you separated in the vid, if that's CA or some other more low quality flexible glue? |

from what i understand its an old method originally started in the 80's by the onroad guys. *****just be careful with the c.a. fumes around your eyes when peeking under the tinfoil to see when it starts to smoke ! Enjoy !

No, but a sticky containing all the known procedures would be nice, but I don’t wanna wade though 50,000 cool idea-great jobs posts before I finish reading through the thread.

That's the typical reply. Then I say, go ahead and make a good thread and I'll check it out... Almost never happens

I guess I did not think of it from that perspective, (I was just thinking of it from this is the best way up to this point in time), perspective. Great job on a non biased approach. My Bad

Can I cut-copy-paste, Or do I have to rewrite all four paragraphs? You have no idea how lazy I can be, but I’ll try. I’d don’t know words good like you.

Ok, I’m gonna draft it first, then I’ll cut/copy/paste it when I’m done.

Went pretty good. I got them off with little fuss. I did have some rubber pull off the tires but my tires seemed to have a crazy amount of glue on them. Overall impressed with the method. Last edited by fr8cture; 12-30-2017 at 01:04 AM. |

As I am going to try to remove some glued tires from plastic rims, I was searching for the "best" way to go about it. Found this and between the video and the other posts here, I figured this was the simplest way to try first. I've always used beadlocks up to now so no experience at all with glue. I had an old plastic wheel and tire assembly to test this out and had kind of less than perfect results. I started out with the 60 watt light bulb for about 20 minutes. I got a little of the outer bead to pull away from the rim and that was it. Switched to 100 watt bulb and this was a little better. I was heating the tire and wheel for about 10 minutes, then working it to break more of the tire away from the rim. Repeated this over about an hour before I was able to get the tire off. But, can't get the glue to soften enough to get it off the tire or rim. The glue is yellowish to brownish and "brittle" rather than soft and probably 5 times more used than I would think was required. I got the rim and tire used so don't know what glue was used. Any ideas? The rim I'm guessing is Axial and the tire is a Flat Iron. The tires and rims I want to separate are Axial from the SCX10ii 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited CRC RTR. Just wanted to know if I can expect the same problems with these? |
