People, especially on this site, love to hype up the tire flavor of the month, but at the end of the day none of them have beaten Proline tires when it comes to best overall tire. Remember a couple years back when everybody was saying how the Team Ottsix Voodoo KLR tires were the must have tire? You barely hear a mention of those tires these days...

What do you guys think about Rc4wd's x2ss and x2s3 compounds? Are they as good as Proline's and Pitbull's?

Too hard to compare, there aren't any similar tread pattern/size matchups... When you talk tires, all variables come into play. The new x2sss compound is really good, but you would have to test side-by-side on the same terrain and vehicle to answer the question about the overall performance.

X2s3 is too new to know much yet but my 4.75" MTRs are brilliant in the ice and snow so that's promising. Can't wait until spring to put them to work. Better than G8 though I am a fan of quite a few Proline tires and I've never been impressed by pit bulls (I like my mad beasts though).

I have a set of RC4WD Irok 1.9s in the Advanced X2 SS compound that I mount up and run from time-to-time. They look cool and are easy to mount up to beadlocks, but never seem to perform all that well for me. I've repeatedly changed up the foams and swapped them between trucks in an attempt to find their place - no success.

See that's what's funny about tires for different people. My 1.9" Iroks on my little wraith have pulled lines previously only conquered by my comp crawler days.

In the beginning I swore by RC4WD Iroks in X2SS. They wear so quickly and, after trying other tires, I realized they are good, but not anything special. I haven't tried the newest X2Sł compound, but I'm going to at some point. |

What would be the difference in performance between thread blocks that are close together like the Bfg all-terrain, and thread blocks that are farther apart like the Rock beasts?

I would suspect that I just haven't gotten the foams dialed in. Just like I have some mountain bike tires that are really sensitive to needing a specific tire pressure, I feel like it's similar for some crawler tires in regards to foam setup. Maybe the RC4WDs fall into that category whereas the Proline G8s have a slightly larger window?

Here's a picture which shows my daily driving spot's dirt and rock section. (Ignore the tin can and discarded shirt left by the overnight visitors). The TSL XLs just eat this terrain alive. There's really no reason for me to drive close block tires like the ones shown (Proline K02) other than I like the challenge and just prefer the looks of smaller tires on this particular truck.

Would the close blocks have less grip on some terrain like rock? I am thinking that because the blocks are closer together, there is less space for the rock to go in between them and give traction. Would that be true?

| Re: Best rock/all around 1.9 tire The pure rock slab stuff that I drive on has a rough, sandstone surface on which all of my tires get traction - regardless of the lug spacing. Heck, I bet even Proline Primes (slick) would work. The lug spacing really starts to have an effect when I drive in mixed terrain. I don't encounter moss covered rocks or roots in my area so I don't have much of an opinion regarding lug spacing for those situations. I also avoid stream crossings since I hate the prospect of having to unmount tires and dry out foams. Lug spacing definitely comes into play for those wet situation.

My favorite tires are TSL XL, Hyrax, and Rock Beast XL. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those 3. If price is a factor, you probably want to skip the RBXL. If scale looks is a factor, you may want to skip the Hyrax. Quote:

I noticed the same thing happening to my scx10 ii Cherokee until I got Austar wheels for it. I didn't have that much time with the Austars on the rocks, so I couldn't really test them against the stock K02s, since I sold it a few monts after I got the Austars.

The terrain you run on sounds a lot like what I run on here. I'd also recommend the TSLs. I love my Pitbulls until the mud comes around and I can't clean them out.

Thanks for all the info guys, I have decided to stick with the stock tires but with cut foams for now. In the future I will defenetly get beadlocks and new tires. From all the good things I read about the Proline TSL XSs, those will defenetly be my 1st choice. |

| Re: Best rock/all around 1.9 tire There were a few words back there about foam. This directly affects the tires performance also. How much it squats on the terrain is also affected by how much weight if any is added to the wheels. This is making small changes at a time and see how well the rig performs where you decide to run it.
