Free spinning brake rotors?
What's next? 2.2~2.4 'Spinner' wheels where the outside free spins when the rig stops? :lmao:

J/k, I love your products! "thumbsup"

They would be about 10 years too late on that one.

I'm a fan of SSD products and their customer service. This one has me scratching my head, though. Am I missing something here?

I never thought I'd see SSD do this. Why? After a couple of runs in the mud or water those are going to be junk. I love your products, but this one is just silly. Let other companies have these gimmicks.

Wouldn't the brake rotors appear static and not spin while the rest of the wheel does so it looks more realistic?

With that said, would it be possible to machine a rotor with caliper and have it stay it float / stay still?

Re: New SSD Wheel Hub with Spinning Steel Rotor

Not everyone runs in water/mud. We might do some static wheel weights also, undecided...

Good Lord... it's worse than I thought...
But at least I can't be blamed for giving them the idea! 8)

I'm not understanding the point to this one either. Like you said, they're going to lockup from rust, mud, and dirt pretty quick.

Is it so the rotor doesn't act like rotational weight if it doesn't spin with the wheel, therefore not robbing torque from the motor?

1:1 brake rotor rotate with the wheels anyway, so how is it more realistic?

Re: New SSD Wheel Hub with Spinning Steel Rotor

Yes the point of this was reduce load on the drivetrain/motor (and look better than the brass wheel weights).

Ah, this is probably what I was missing. Still not my thing (I'm thinking about picking up their regular hub/rotors), but at least I get why they did it now. Looks nice on the shelf. Reduces rotating mass.

You're right, pre-coffee brain fart.

Really sick of our crybaby reactions to new products and vendors on here lately. Remember these folks are releasing amazing products for us. SSD has been the front runner since they started a few years back. Let's thank them for supporting/supplying our hobby or let's say nothing at all. 8)

What would these cost? I don’t run in mud and want to give them a try.

There's a fine line between crybaby reactions and sarcasm, and not often is the latter translated well online... SSD makes some amazing products, and I have proudly purchased several, and plan on buying much more in the future. Yes, I do thank them for supporting our little hobby and bringing exciting stuff to it. "thumbsup"
Personally, I was just trying to understand this particular item a little more, as I'm still quite new to the hobby itself.

You do have a point about a portion of participants bashing every new thing they don't like, but they are typically a louder minority compared to the silent majority.
In the end, we shouldn't take things too seriously in this hobby. We're all playing with tiny trucks and cars, and the only difference adults and kids is the price of our toys!
