Are Axial Nitto Trail Grapplers any good?

I was thinking of switching to Axial Nitto Trail Grapplers on my crawler. I am currently running Treps. I have searched and have not really found anything good/bad about the Trail Grapplers. I know there are probably better tires out there but I wanted to match my 1:1, but if they are horrible I will look for something else. I run on a wide variety of terrain but mostly stick to rocks. I would appreciate any input that anyone has.

I liked how the S30 compound Nittos which came with my SCX10 ii looked, but they struggled on anything which wasn't abrasive rock. I took a chance a few months ago and purchased a set of R35 versions of these same tires when they arrived in my local crawling shop. I really like their size and appearance. I have run them on my SCX10 ii and my Ascender, but will probably keep them on the Ascender long term since they pair up nicely with the 4-Runner body I'm using on it.

I'm running the R35s on one of my 10.2s and I'm happy with them so far. I'm using comp cut 4.5" Lil Novas in them.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will try a set in r35 compound once they are back in stock. I am running 4.75 novas in the front that I will try to make work. I am still running stock foams in the back.

Axial makes some nice looking tires, but their R35 compound lags behind everybody these days.

What would you suggest?

I'm a fan of Proline. I also like Pit Bull tires, but they have become so overpriced that I only buy them during their 50% off sales which brings their tires down to normal prices similar to their competitors.

RC4WD has a large selection of scale looking tires. Their X2SS compound is good, but not great. They also have a new X2S3 compound that I have yet to try. But if you buy RC4WD tires new foams are a MUST since the stock ones are garbage.

RC4WD's cool, new tire finder will help you select a tire in the size you require.

If you do get the Nittos, I'd recommend against 4.75" foams. They would be far too big. 4.5" are about right.

The new compound RC4WD tires come with new design for some, much better than before. Not saying that they are equally great as far as Crawler Innovations, but really good single stage foams. Reviews have born that out, but I have yet to run mine.

Re: Are Axial Nitto Trail Grapplers any good?

Jato's comment in regards to Proline and RC4WD tires is (as always) accurate. I spend a decent amount of time running with Prolines and Pitbulls. I've had 2 or 3 other Axial tires in the R35 compound in the past and they were just okay. However, there's something that's really jelling well for me with the Nitto R35s. I'm running the stock foams in the rear with the foams I pulled out of the PitBull Madbeasts in the front. They don't do as well as a few of my Prolines in damp/muddy conditions, but in the normally dry conditions we have here in Colorado they're doing well by me. I particularly like how they look like something I'd run on my real truck (even though I don't drive a Toyota and I run 33" tires).

Axial Nitto Trail Grapplers R35 in the house!

Finally got them... I'm looking forward to mount them up and try them. Size wise they match the Trepadors and Falken Wildpeaks pretty much - which is a size I like. And I like that they are mud terrain. I think Axial tires are quite underrated.. true with the compound, but still.. Size and looks are just great!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...70698c489b.jpg

I wanted to try prolines Super swappers. Was recommended the XL version.... big mistake. They are taller and wider than the faulken wildpeaks and canyons. I rather stick with more realistic tires sizes.., you live you learn.
.... but love my little 1.5 Rock Beasts.

But those Super Swampers XL are maybe the best tire you can get for the money. When it comes to size, you could have just checked it before you bought. Of course 4.75" is taller than 4.6".
