Default Sidewall bulge

Got a question. When stretching 1.7’s onto 1.9’s or 1.9’s onto 2.2’s the side wall tends to bulge. I’m not sure if some tires are worse than others but it’s definitely pronounced on my 1.9 Boggers on 2.2’s. Are people just filling it with oversized foams, using tuning rings or just ignoring it and moving on. Seems to me that it will hinder performance as the foam can slide too much laterally.

1.9 RB XLs on 2.2s. regular CI foams recommended for the 1.9 RB XLs with the inner shaved a tad. I don't know if you consider that bulge sitting static or not.

Just taking a wild guess, but I'm betting the wheels are significantly wider than most 1.9 wheels, causing the bulge.

They are an older set of mayhem engineering beadlocks. Inner can measures about 1.2” or so.

The 1.7 on a 1.9 I would possibly attempt. The 1.9 on a 2.2 is way off in regards to a decent scale look (My opinion). I am assuming that your 1.9 Bogger is proline? If I am assuming correct the tire is your issue. I helped a local foam a set and they are ginormous. The tire looked like your rig would be unstable. Super tall and out of proportion. One positive though....... you would have an easier time finding a solid fitting 2.2 foam. The 2.2 wheel could actually help these things proportion out.

These are 1.9 Pit Bull Growlers mounted on 2.2 VP Method wheels. I run CI 4.5" Double Deuce inner foams with medium Lil-Nova outer foams. They fill the tire nicely and still provide nice sidehill stability. There is some sidewall bulge but I have not seen that as a problem. In fact the bulge seems to protect the wheels from scratches. In an effort to stop the foam from sliding inside the tire I turn grooves in the wheel center ring to give the foam something to hold on to.

Yes it’s a Proline Bogger. This is really the only tire I’d personally consider doing it to and I attempted it largely because 5.4” is right where I wanted to be. Maybe it’s a matter of finding a more narrow beadlock in order to pull the sidewall a little tighter. If it wasn’t for the sidewall ballooning they would have looked right at home.
