| spun my spacers in the wheel... What is up with that????
Bought some fancy (or so it seemed) 2.2 wheels and tires a while back. Been running them with out a problem; however, today I noticed the lt front wheel wasn't spinning under moderate binding. Investigating, it seems the hex end of my spacer is spinning in the hex part of the wheel. These are plastic wheels, but is this common? I have the nuts on with blue locktite and they are still tight-seems that the wheel is ruined. Ideas? What do the "big dogs" run for wheels. Yes I am new, but this seems odd to me. There is a lot of surface area on those interfaces and I am not running much over a stock motor... (Redcat gen 7 here). Are there some wheels that are recommended for crawling as "the best" ? clearly what I got are less than the best (in my opinion-and sorry I have forgotten what brand I bought...) Alloy wheels? What is bomber? Thanks Pat |

It's very common to spin the hex in plastic wheels. SSD, GearHead RC, RC4WD, Vanquish and Incision all make excellent steel or aluminum wheels. A "Bomber" is a Axial RR10 Bomber rock racer and crawler that is very popular as an all-around rig. It's a scale copy of the King of the Hammers multi-time winning Bomber Fabrications truck driven by Randy Slawson: |

Good answer, but by 'bomber' I think he means strong. My go to wheels are RC4WD stamped steel beadlocks currently. |

Rounding off the inside of the wheel hex is somewhat common in RC, though more so with fast stuff. It just happens with plastic wheels though. Theres a lot of good wheel brands out there and I wouldn't say there is a "best" IMHO. But SSD & Gearhead are my favorites, or you can adapt SLW hubs (which are aluminum) to some plastic wheels. Also DO NOT use loctite on locknuts, almost all wheels mount with locknuts. Locknuts have a nylon insert inside (it does the 'locking') and locktite will melt plastics and ruin locknuts. Only use it when its metal on metal and not a locknut. Last edited by HumboldtEF; 10-10-2018 at 04:49 PM. |
