Default Recommendations for new tires

Hey guys I have a scx10 with some Pitbull growler tires. Went out for the first time with them and didn't work well for where I went. By the Beach some wet and Sandy rocks. Have a front motor mount and just swapped in some d44 axles.

It's possible the tires are not a good match for you, but it is also possible that they will improve a lot after being worn in a bit.

I've seen polarizing opinions on Growlers at times, less so from the Rock Beast IIs and Pro-Line Hyrax.

I think the smaller Proline super swampers would look great on there and those seem to do well in most conditions.

I have a hard time with the hyrax in sand and on wet rocks and rely on wheelspeed to get by but I love them and they kick butt everywhere else IMO.

My Growlers struggle for traction compared to my Proline Tsl's.

The tread spacing is much too close imo for my terrain. Mud, sand, snow, and some rock, and roots is where I run mostly. My trails are very diverse and when I get into rock they have fantastic grip, just not everywhere else.

I'm going to replace them with Proline Tsl's in the 4.75" g8 flavor here pretty soon.

My favorite tall 1.9 tires right now are the Proline Krawlers.

However, it is hard to go wrong with the Proline Swampers. While they aren't always the best tire for a given terrain, there is a high likelihood they will perform well regardless of the conditions.

I don't have much sand, but I like the Duratrax Deep Woods CR in the mud and they are easy on the wallet!

Pic for tread pattern:

I use a lot of different tires between my rigs, but if I had to recommend just one it would be the G8 Super Swamper in either the standard or the XL.

I've run a lot of tires. It's been quite some time since I ran TSL, but the Deep Woods are a great all around tire.

Great looking truck! Try some Proline Hyrax or TSL Super Swampers.

another recommend for the proline TSL. The 1.9 XL are the 4.75 inch flavor. G8 compound is great. New predator compound I can't personally speak on.

I also really like the new RC4WD compound in the MTR pattern. Its also 4.75 inch or 4.19 inch, both in 1.9.

Growlers are known for not being the best for any kind of slippery conditions. They're fine on dry rock surfaces. CI foams can make a huge difference - so whatever you get, get some Lil' Novas in a slightly smaller size than your tire, with the comp-cut inners and medium to firm outers. You'll thank us later.
And something to weight your axles, either beeftubes or hub weights or knuckles - you need something to put some weight down low on your tires, lower your COG.

I have the TSL's in stock Vaterra flavor as well as the Proline predator ones. The latter is a bigger tire, and definitely grips better, but is a very soft compound. About 7 months on granite and they are just shredded - took them off and went back to RockBeast XL's in alien compound.

I also have the Krawlers in G8 - they're fine, nothing special. The Rockbeast XL's and predator tsl's are very on par as far as traction - a hyrax hangs right in there too - either compound, but the newer softer compounds do grip a little better.

IMO most of the 4.75" tires are too big for most 1.9 crawlers. They grip, and roll over obstacles well, but you have to either hog out your wheel wells, or raise body, and it affects side-hilling and climbing. You would be shocked when a guy with a properly setup rig with class-1 tires out climbs you - it's just not all about the tallest tire.

One of my most favorite tires out of all the various ones I've tried are the simple PitBull RockBeast Scalers - the 4.45" size. They fit rigs well, look great, and with CI foams and some weight, they can go with the best of them.

My two-cents.

Here's three different rigs I've run them on, all were just amazing in how they would climb. A real surprise for sure.

The K10 on the left here:

They used to be on this Wrangler here:

And on the Axial Blazer. This stock blazer would nearly keep up with my full-blown comp rig with 4.75 RockBeast XL's or Predator TSL's:

Must be user error.

Another vote for the TSL super swampers. I opted for the 4.3 size G8 compound. Much more proportional for my lowered "tacoma" honcho

So, you think they're some kind of magic?

I ran them extensively on this rig and I can tell you they're not.

Different rigs different terrain. I cannot for the life of me get pitbull rock beasts to work in my terrain but deepwoods and tells are magic, finding grip where there shouldn't be any. So Crawlers might work good where he is at and not where you are at.

I have no complaints with my PB Growlers in Alien compound on either wet or dry rocks and even muddy conditions. OP did not say what compound his tires were and they look new. But what I have noticed that the Growlers tend to grip better once they get worn a bit.

Magic? No, just a really good tire that I have run for almost 2 years now on dry rocks, wet rocks, slick water polished rocks, dirt, mud, sand, and pretty much everything else while comparing them against the irresponsible amount of other tires I own from all the major tire brands.
