Default Beadlocks and tires for TRX4

I am relatively new to RC crawling. I have a TRX4 and love it. I want to get a set of deadlocks and BFGoodrich Krawlers. What is the best (inexpensive, but quality) options for wheels for my truck? I want to be sure they will clear the portals. I really like the RC4WD steelies....would these work?

Cheap wheels which will clear the TRX-4 portals, and Krawler tires: Proline Impulse 1.9.

Slightly more expense, quality wheels which will also work well: SSD steel - available in a wide variety of styles. Shown with Proline Super Swampers, but I had the Krawlers mounted to them at one point.

Default Beadlocks and tires for TRX4

I have a set of GMade rims that are not that expensive. I paid $50 for 4 wheels. The pic has them on my VS4-10 but they fit with no rubbing on the hubs. These are actual headlocks. The bolts hold the beads in place with an inner ring.

The stock TRX4 tires are actually surprisingly good when paired with a good foam like CI. My experience with the RC4WD steel wheels has been less than positive. They are hard to mount and I won't use them again. My favorite wheel is the VP Method 105 beadlocks, while they are not cheap they are great quality and easy to mount.

Looks like you popped a bead on that second photo

@OP: SSD steel wheels are higher Quality than RC4WD steelies and are agruably one of the easiest wheels to mount. They aren't all that more expensive either.

The Krawler's are a great tire too. Proline uses their newer single stage foam in them (unlike the TSL SX which still come with that horrid memory foam) so those don't need to be changed out right away. I'd recommend using their 2-stage foams though if you can handle another $30 right away. But, can always upgrade later.

In general avoid wheels with a back beadlock ring and you should be okay.

I gotta get a new set of bifocals... I read that as "Avoid wheels with BLACK beadlock rings"...

I was like "WTF?"

I like silver w/black beadlocks and black w/silver beadlocks equally!

I'm going to add another vote to SSD steel beadlocks. Very nicely made and easy to work with.

Also, here are some cheaper generic chinese beadlocks that will clear the portals:

It looks like I popped a bead, but it is holding tight. I pulled the tire away from the wheel and it won't budge. I'm not going to fix it if it is still working. Nice eye though.
