Default track treads

with the popularity of the trx4 and traxxas releasing tracks for it (plus they'll be adaptable to other platforms soon), how long before proline or another tire mfr releases a new tread pattern?

do yall see a need for new tread designs?

Proline Hy-trax!

I see no need for it but it would be a shame to let that name go to waste.

I don't personally see tracks becoming mainstream enough for scale MFGs to invest in. Although someone might get creative enough to cut and shut a pair of regular tire tread onto a set of tracks.

I don't see it happening any decade soon. I watched the traxxas tracks roll off every time the guy turned and drove ahead with the lockers on. Unfortunately with the lockers off they stayed on but also it didn't go anywhere.

Traxxas is a huge scale manufacturer and they invested in it...

RC4WD has already done it as well, but they are a much smaller company.

Lots of Traxxas users have a significant amount of user error.

I was wondering if the traxxas tracks would have the same issue I have with my rc4wd predator tracks. I love tracks but do have issues with the tracks coming off in turns with my rigs (all have locked axles). I've adjusted tension but that doesn't seem to correct the issue.

Well we have bead locks for tires, so somebody just needs to come up with some kind of track locks to keep the tracks from coming off.

Tracks have their place and it's not on rocks or high traction surfaces. They are designed for flotation on soft sand, snow and possibly mud (I've never put them in mud). There are inherent limitations to them and probably why you see them being thrown. I've got the chinese ones (same as RC4WD) and never had an issue when I ran them last winter. Drive within their limitations, keep them from getting packed with ice or gravel and they are a blast.

great convo guys!

although on the rocks would be cool, i was more so suggesting just a different tread pattern in general. maybe deeper lugs?
however, a soft n sticky tread would be cool, i can definitely see them helping on vertical climbs. idk, could work could be a flop.
or like ive seen jato say in a few threads theses are "gimmicky"

just thoughts i have/had.

fair points. I don't use mine on rocks and i'm not racing on asphalt. but they do get time on hard pack dirt surface which probably does contribute to the tracks getting thrown off. too much traction!

True, but thats from lack of maintenance (ie not properly tensioned) or a failed part.

remember 1:1 tires go flat

RC tires go flat. Did you ever a tire, without holes, on beadlock wheels and then go through a temperature change? Tire deflates.

Yup, i actually installed some tires that i left in the freezer for a cpl hours because i wanted them to "inflate."
