Default Axial wraith spawn tire and rim

I required a axial wraith spawn through a swap. It had the original rims and some real good tires. The problem comes with the rims hex being rounded off. They are plastic and can't handle the brushless motor. I put new aluminum rims on it and here's my question. When the rims are mounted on the Hex in the front of the rim where the nut goes the hole in the rim is larger then the spindle. The plastic ones are the same. Is there supposed to be something to take up that space? Some king of shim?

Yes they have a washer that fits over the hole. It is rounded on one side and flat on the other, about 1/8" thick... My Axial brand rims came with them....

It had one of them the others were flat washers. How does this keep the tire from moving around
