Default Deep Woods vs Showdown 1.9's

I am looking to replace the stock tires on my kit built Ascender. The truck has the heavy SSD brass steering knuckles, and SSD brass rear axle weights. Other then that it is stock.

Been trying to decide between the Duratrax Deep Woods and Showdown 1.9 tires. I love pure rock crawling, but also have 40 acres of land that I can play around in all types of terrain. Rocks, logs, mud, pallets, etc. I like to make more technical crawling courses and do not really get into trail running.

What do you guys think? Would one fit better then the other on the Ascender? Would either be better suited to my terrain?

Thanks in advance,
Stomp

For me the showdowns are an awesome tire(have them in 1.9 and 2.2s), of course get some dual stage foams and they'll hook up great. Can not comment on the deep woods but apparently they're an awesome tire too(of course better foams than stock). That's what I've read in here.
No matter what tire you get they'll both be great. Of course buy better foams.

I have both. Showdown is a better performing tire in just about any condition I've run them in. The wider like spacing seems to grab onto ticks just a bit better to allow it to crawl over things I had to use eheelspeed on to get deep woods to get over. But the deep woods has a more scale appearance and is probably 90-95%% as good. If you want ultimate perform get the showdowns. If you want better scale looks without a big drop off in perform go deep woods.

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards the Showdown tires, but was not sure because of the wide lug spacing and how it would perform. The other thing I wonder about is if the wider and taller Showdown tire will rub on the frame or shocks on my Ascender. For some reason I really want the Showdown, but feel like I like the looks better of the DeepWoods. Too dang indecisive. :-)

What kind of different foams are you guys using? Do you think the stock Vaterra TSL foams would work better. Having to buy foams offsets the benefit of a less expensive tire.

I agree but on what car do deep woods have a "scale" look

Stock vaterra foams are too small.

I stuck with the Duratrax foams, but my tires are not vented and I used them on a heavy crawler. They've worked great for me, but would be flat if I had vented them.

I didn't mean to imply they have scale looks, but they have more scale look than the showdowns.

Deep woods can do scale nicely. Badass like the Simex trekkers. With the right foams they go anywhere. I run mine on a lightweight rig and like them a lot.

I run the DeepWoods on my Mog.

I removed the white lettering and replaced the stock foams(way to soft). I installed the foams that came with my RC4WD Wrangler MTRs.

Looks great and seem to perform well in the limited time I’ve had them out testing.

How did you remove the lettering?

Some paper towel and some Acetone. Rubbed right off.

I bought the Deep Woods and they are working pretty well. Overall they foams are quite stiff on my 6 lb 14 ounce Ascender. The foams are stiffer then the stock Vaterra foams. They work better in the woods and some rocks, but have found them to not do as well in a few slicker rock crawling situations. I wonder how this will get as they break in? I think the foams are too stiff which is odd because all the pictures and videos show them as super soft. Maybe they changed the foams.

Odd, my foams were super soft. I use Proline dual stages, they fit perfect.

Both my Showdowns and DW did take a run or two to break in.

th foams that came in my DeepWoods seem to be too big. They were stuffed into the tire and were "folded" in several places. i tried to even it out, but it just kept folding. seem to be too big.

i replaced a set of Hyrax with the DeepWoods. I can clearly hear the DeepWoods lugs catch on rocks where Hyrax would just slip (damp/clay/sandy conditions and damp rocks). however the lugs do seem to fold over easily. so far they are performing a little better than the Hyrax for the conditions i usually have.
