Foams for Water / Medium-weight TRX-4 Hi All, I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, but I did a search and was having difficulty finding info for my situation. I have a TRX-4 Sport with some added weight (brass front bumper mount with servo mount and brass front portal covers), and I run in creeks pretty regularly. The stock foams on my Sport seem to have already broken down from all the water, and they're not supporting the weight of the truck anymore. I'm also going to be adding a little bit more weight still (metal wheels and metal diff covers), so I definitely need some stiffer foams. I found the Crawler Innovations Deuces Wild and think it might be a good fit for what I'm looking for since they're waterproof. If possible I'd also like some input on which size will fit best with the stock 4.6 Traxxas Canyon Trial tires. https://crawlerinnovations.com/deuce...l-foam-pair-2/ Do any of you have experience with these foams? My preference is to have one set of tires/foam/wheels that does everything reasonably well until further down the road when I can have a "Water" wheel/tireset and a "Rocks" wheel/tireset. |
Re: Foams for Water / Medium-weight TRX-4 CI has now a foam calculator https://crawlerinnovations.com/foam-calculator/ Alternatively if waterproof there are also the laserfoams, which are have a lot of fans here in germany. You can get them from amain. https://www.amainhobbies.com/crazy-c...yc069/p1056126 these are for the canyon trail out of the description. |
Re: Foams for Water / Medium-weight TRX-4 Foams kill open cell foams. I know lots of people disagree, but my personal experience says otherwise. At the same time, closed cell foams are too stiff and they don't allow the tire to conform to the terrain. I suggest undersizing the foams if you are going with single, closed cell foams like the Deuce's Wild. Quote:

Re: Foams for Water / Medium-weight TRX-4 how about not venting your wheels if you go through a lot of water? That's what I'm doing with my TF2, I left the stock wheels unvented and I still have enough tire flex and grip to drive everywhere really well. |
Re: Foams for Water / Medium-weight TRX-4 Thanks very much everyone! Really solid info. I ordered some CI Deuces Wild foams after doing some measuring to make sure there’ll be a bit of a gap for the tire to conform to terrain. Also ordered some GMade SR02 Beadlocks so I don’t have to mess with reglueing to the stock wheels. This hobby sure does keep the wallet light, doesn’t it? hobbyjumper, that’s definitely a helpful (and very cool) video. I’m in PA and run in very similar types of areas. Also, is that a JConcepts Creep body? Looks great. That one is up for consideration for my next body for my TRX-4 Sport. At the moment I’m leaning more towards the Traxxas TRX-4 Bronco body, but I really dig the Creep and it’s very fairly priced. |
Re: Foams for Water / Medium-weight TRX-4 Just an update... Got the CI Deuces Wild foams installed in the GMade SR02s, and ran the truck all day today. I'll post a video link below. Performance is solid enough, but I do notice a little less traction on technical stuff without the soft foam to help the tire cling to things. I have to say that the off-camber turning ability with the firm foams is amazing. The next set will definitely be dual-stage, but I'll be running these as-is for a while. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3gz...ature=youtu.be <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/l3gzPkzAuZo" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Re: Foams for Water / Medium-weight TRX-4 I thoroughly enjoyed that. Really nice video! |
