| Narrowing axial 40 series beadlocks
I know that this has been posted before but some of the newbies don't like to search or want certain measurements. Well I got bored to night and went to the garage looking for something to do and remembered that I need to narrow my 40 series axial beadlocks. So I cleaned of the old drill press and went to work. Chucked up my big cut-off wheel and started measuring. wheels are 3 1/4 wide. I'm shooting for close to 2" wide with minimal back spacing. 1st cut was right behind the first rib of the beadlocks. I cut all 4 and set each cut beadlock together that way if there are any differences in each rim you are using parts from the same rim. 2nd cut was determined by my measuring to get a 2" wide rim. So I set the table of my drill press so the bottom edge of my cut of wheel was at 1 1/2 from the table. Then cut all 4. It does cut in to the webbing of the wheel just a little bit. But not enough to harm its strength. I just sniped off the excess that was left form the cut-off wheel with side cutters. With all the wheels cut I just need to glue them and put fiberglass reinforcement to make the cuts stronger but that will be tomorrow. The specs after the cuts are the rim will be almost 2 1/8 wide with about a 1/2 inch back spacing. Last edited by Red Rockcrawler; 10-07-2007 at 10:44 PM. |

Well after getting back from the hobby store. I started to ca glue the rims. I try to line up the mold lines that way you know that the cuts match up. I use rubber band to hold the rim tight while gluing it. I tack about 1 section on each side that way it doesn't shift on me. Then I glue the rest of the cuts. Next step is to reinforce the the cuts. I normally use fiberglass and resin. But I read from the guy that narrows rcp rims to use epoxy instead of resin. I might give that a try. Who know's I have alot of resin still left after narrowing my pro-line beadlocks. Last edited by Red Rockcrawler; 10-07-2007 at 10:46 PM. |

Looks good. If you want to take more, just take it off the front side. I double narrowed mine simular to the way you cut yours. Mine measure about 1 3/8" wide bead to bead.
