What tires does everyone use, and what tires do you think are the best for what we do?

The best all around crawling tires I've used are ProLine Giant Tracs. They are a nice combination between a medium compound and lots of edges to grab with.

I can say that in the snow, Imex Pullers have faired much better so I would imagine you can translate that into better grip on mud and other soft surfaces.

I am in the process of cutting my own set of tires and only time will tell whether my cut pattern works any better.

Does anyone use JumboMaxx Swamp Dawgs? I was thinking of picking a set up (along with maxx adapters). The look of a tire is probably just as important to me as its performance (vain?). It'd be nice if the Swamp Dawgs were offered in Clod size, but we all know what happened with that fiasco.
Dirk's cut stock tires look cool too.

Hands down....the best crawling tire is the BFT Associated tires. I have used them all and I feel they have the perfect combination. They are very tall, at almost 7 inches. The side wall is nice and tall. The tread can be cut into any pattern. The rubber is rediculously soft and pliable.
I have IMEX Jumbo Swamp Dogs and Claw Dogs. I like the Swamp Dogs after I did some major rubber removal. They are still fairly stiff and not flexible. The Claw Dogs are very soft but they are not as tall as the SwampDogs. I removed many lugs from them as well.
Believe it or not, last night, I cut all of my ClawDogs right down the middle with a knife. I then removed about a half an inch from each half. Then I carefully glued them back together with CA glue. Sounds crazy huh? It worked very well. I now have tall and skinny IMEX Jumbos mounted on Savage Wheels. I plan to try them on my TXT axles.

I'm running the jumbo maxx swamp dawgs on my modded x factor, they work okay on the rocks, but i think I'm going to upgrade to the bft tires also, i just like how tall they are...

Outlaw,
You should remove some lugs. Start by removing all of the smallest lugs. They really turn into some aggresive claws after that and they get way more pliable.

Dirk....please let us know how the cut/glued tires hold up. I've wondered about doing that myself but never took the plunge to try. Anxious to see your results!

Use a pair of cutters for the big parts, then a dremmel to smooth it out.

Hey, I was wondering what the measurements of the BFT tires are. I wouldn't mind getting some but I don't want to get something skinnyier than what I have now.

From Tower's site: Outside Diameter: 6-5/8" (178mm)
Inside Diameter: 3" (75mm)
Width: 3-5/8" (89mm)

I must say, don't waste your money on the swamp dawgs. My maxx mashers with narrowed rims works better than the swamp dawgs. I am ordering the bft since everyone says they are so good. I am going to put them on my narrowed rims and cut some of the tread and I should be in good shape.

i just picked up a set of the assoc. tires....i really didn't care for the tread design( that would be the swamp dawgs or hot bodies physco tire) but i have to say i like these..i havent ran them yet since i just now got them on the rims and on the maxx but the added height is great and they are not really a heavy tire either..next time i will just buy a new set of rims also,trying to get the old ones off suck-even the boiling part :roll: :lol:

I stopped by my local hobby store today and saw some Jumbo Claw Dawg tires. Man are those wide! Are wider tires better then narrow tires? I am asuming not since from what I have seen from Dirk's mods, he narrows some rims. I know one reason to narrow the rims is to make the tread wrap down the side wall. But the Jumbo Claw Dawg tires already have quite a bit of side wall tread. My buddy at the hobby shop swears the Jumbo Claw Dawg tires would be better crawlers then the BFT's because of the width.

not really sure since i haven't ran the claw dawgs. i know the BFT assoc tires i have are a very soft compound and hook up great.besides they are 7" tall. i have yet to cut on them and will here shortly, but they have been one of the best choices i have made for my Maxx. as far as a wide tire vs narrow tire. it is all up to preference. i like a wide tire myself to give better stabilty in off camber spots..but a narrow tire will fit in some places better as to where my wide tire may get jambed in a bind in.just need to choose your lines good and not worry about it :D
