| Best method/solvent for cleaning up old axle grease?
I have been searching for this, because I thought I saw it once before, but I have had no luck. What is the best method and/or solvent or solution for cleaning axle grease. I have some maxx diffs apart that I got from somebody who didn't take care of them properly, and I need to clean them up. I need to know a good solvent that won't destroy the plastic housing, but is strong enough to take of the old nasty grease. Is there something that I can just soak them in that will get into all of the nooks and crannies? I will apologize in advance if this should have been in the tools/procedures forum, I debated where to put it but thought general, because it applies to pretty much all trucks. Thanks Matt |

There are a lot of solvents out there that will work on grease but they need to be tested first on plastic. WD-40 and a toothbrush is a good all around cleaner.
