| some questions about brazing gas, soldering\welding and so on...
I live in Italy and someone who's already brazing suggested buying this: http://www.ryanairconspares.com/turb...ing-p-250.html I've read in some threads that someone suggests using MAPP gas, but that turboset90 comes with butane/propane mixture. I've read something about MAPP on wikipedia and it says: "The gas is also used for brazing and soldering, under combustion in ambient air, where it has considerable advantage over competing propane fuel due to its higher combustion temperature. A typical MAPP gas brazing operation would involve using it to silver braze (sometimes colloquially and inaccurately called silver solder) steel parts together. Plumbers use both MAPP gas and propane for pipe soldering and brazing, but MAPP gas's higher combustion temperature makes such jobs quicker." now my question is: will the butane/propane mix + oxygen be as good as the MAPP or should I try to find MAPP here in Italy to get the best results? I will work with steel rods. (unless you'll tell me there's better material, but I've read that alluminium is harder to work with because off its melting temperature) thanks in advance Last edited by bazur; 05-08-2008 at 02:34 AM. |

MAPP gas uses less oxygen to achieve the same temp as the propane/butane mix. I would look for some MAPP if I were you. Have you looked into getting a Smith Mini Torch? This is what I finally bought and can't beleave the results! This torch is excellent. |
