Question What are you using for a solder gun??

The good old Weller is just not doing it for me any more. I want something more adjustable, maybe able to switch tips. I used to have a nice mini Butane solder pen that had 6 tips and could do it all but it died after 5 years of abuse. And I have not seen any like it for sale.

I was thinking about a Hakko, they seem to be in the Mag a lot. But I have never seen anyone use one.

My question is... What are you using? And how is it working out for you?

Thanks, Heathen

Can't beat a Weller IMO.

I am currently using a basic Weller/Cooper station. Simple, basic, and everything I need. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00954054000P

I just replaced my Weller with the Hakko 936. Heats up super fast and is available with a lot of different tips.

That Hakko 936 or an Ungar should be sufficient for a battery pack. I immediately want to be your friend tho, you are one of the few that realize how important a good soldering iron is. I caught my buddy trying to put a battery together using a 35W Radio Crap special.

That's the one I use for everything. It is a bit heavy compared to many of the others, but I know I have the power when I need it. It's done me well on everything I have thrown at it....although I have yet to build my own pack, so I have never used it for that.

Ive used a high end race station up until about 3 years ago. I got a Radio Shack 20.00 butane model that works really well and is well suited for crawling due to the lack of electricity at most spots. It will solder batteries but its a little difficult on Sub C's without overheating the cells. Works great on 2/3's though. All in all its a good hot iron and a great value.

Got me the Hakko 936 at RCX with the free skin..Can't complain. Have used a regular Hakko Iron for a few years and it has been a great tool. I have seen the knock off at my local harbor freight and it looks like a Hakko that was rejected or something...Almost a dead on copy or b grade....can't be a bad buy for the price!!
