|  Open source or free sw to replace Autocad
I think it has been asked millions of times but the software world evolves so fast I thought it was better to ask again in order to have fresh news. Is there an open source or free software which can be used to replace autocad for, at least, the simplest tasks ? Thanks Filippo |

Haven't used it yet, but hear its ok http://brlcad.org/d/download I have seen others but most are still in the infancy stages. |

i do it both way. i love sketching and then when i need to get into testing with out making i use inventor. if you want pm me and i can hook you up with some auto cadd stuff for cheap.

Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread, but you can go to http://autodesk.com and download a free version of Maya. Its used for 3d graphics and animation.

You can also try google sketch up its a free download, with a lot of free downloadable content, screws, bolts, steel shapes. its not autocad ,but its a nice 3d system for free. Dynodan22 |

solidedge 2d draft is good. i use it, and combine it with primo pdf(free) u can print them in to .pdf files, and open/share on adobe |

I use solid works for my cnc plasma, works great but like Krawler Freak said it is a little pricey.
