i used the regular one on 1/8" steel plate and 1/8" alum and it took forever it seems....i saw the diamond wheel and thought hey, why not it should last longer and cut better....the regular wheels are 10.00 bucks for 5 and they don't really last long enough....my thought is if the diamond wheel lasts longer then 10 regular wheels it pays for itself....i'm going to try to get some stuff cut today with it to see if it's worth the 20.00 bucks....the diamond wheel is less then half the thickness of the regular wheels and looks to be a steel wheel with the diamond dust on it....i'll get some pictures of it with my digi calipers..............bob

The Diamond is for ceramic.
I use the new style mandrel and wheel, it says it last 2X longer...
I built a hole chassis and I still have about 1/2 left.
I was cutting 1/8" rod and some 3/8" tubing.

You can also get the reinforced cutting wheels at sears. They work pretty well

ok here we go. Most abrasive types of cutter heck most cutter in general and stones also will load up with alum. When that happens it creats heat more heat more loading ect. Pay attn to the cutter if you see lil bits of alum on the cutter stop and clean it up. With the reg cut offs that loading will cause uneven wear and that when the wheel will start getting out of round. Then it will crack or just blow apart.
If cutting alum. use a slower rpm and watch the cutter...If its loading it isnt cutting... Same as a grinder,,,if the wheel and grinder isnt set up for alum they can and will explode. The excess heat will cause the wheel to get hot and crack. Same effect on the small dremel cutters. I havent tried a diamond wheel yet and should try one out. Just a nore for you all useing the reg cut off wheels... Good luck and be safe. Oh ya safety glasses. And clamping or hold the part to be cut in a firm safge position will also help the wheels last longer and be alot safer...

here's the diamond wheel and tung cutting bit i bought for bird mouthing the 3/16" tube for brazing....the thickness of the wheel in mm....

i got tired of going through 3/16" chain saw stones so i bought this....

the wheel cut the 1/8" alum real nice and didn't load or get hot to the touch at all....the tung bit did a nice job on the bird mouth of the brake line ................bob
