Try looking in your local area for used (maybe auctions or something). I agree with Mayhem, you're gonna pay a buck or two for a good one new. About 3 months ago I found a 30hp one that I saw running for under 2k. It was HUGE but in good working order and totally worth a couple K given what it can do. A quick search here in denver found this: http://denver.craigslist.org/tls/1036916222.html. Worth looking really as it will save you big money. Used doesn't equal bad. I've personally had two. One was almost 50 years old and still worked fine and the new one worked exactly the same. Just curious, are you running a single 10hp motor or is it really two (or more) machines and you added them together to simplify the post? Also, you may want to do a load test to see how much you actually need. I found that my MORI Lathe (15hp) wouldn't have needed what a 15hp phase converter supplied. Just a thought. |

May I suggest a 10hp variable frequency drive? Input single phase and it will give you 3 phase out. Reliable power through the range up to 10hp. I helped my brother setup his 10hp phase generator. One thing to think about is if you plan on using it on something of less horsepower, it won't work properly and will likely trip breakers. They are very tempermental when the idler motor is not matched to the 3 phase motor you are trying to run. Just one example.....There are many. http://cgi.ebay.com/10-HP,-PHASE-CON...224125010r3823 |
