Looking for metric ss rod
 

Looking for ss rod in metric 2,3,4mm ,perfer 304 , contacted maryland metrics ,they dont stock that size ? also contacted metalmetrics.com just waiting to hear back, any other sugestions?

No, thanks, I just checked the catalog and it shows metric, but when I check online, the p/n does not work? guess I gotta call, thanks for the tip

303, 304 and 316 are all extremely corrosion resistant. 303 and 304 are near identical except it forms and machines a tad better than 304. 316 has a higher alloy content so its harder to form and machine and is used in enviroments that have lots of water and acid exposure.

2mm is basically the same as 5/64" as both are .078" dia. 1/8" is .007" larger in diameter than 3mm and 5/32" is .001 smaller than 4mm. Don't know if thats close enough for you.

Thanks,I ve ordered from speedy before, good prices and great shipping to hawaii :), I ordered from mcmastercarr, shipping was 13 and some change for 4 3mm rods and 2 2mm rods, I'm just lazy to have to keep turning down links and just want to cut threads with out having to size the rod first.

So what's better for making links, 303 because it machines easier or is 304 better ?which is stiffer?

304 usually has a slightly higher yield strength so I suppose it would be better for links. 303 is just nicer to machine but 304 is still very machinable.
