I did a relove of the carcase, created a plane tangent to the carcase, extruded the tread off of the carcase and also extruded it to the surface of the carcase, did a pattern of the tread, did a revolve cut that is just the carcase sketch offset the same distance that the tread is deep.

I have 2006 version of autocad, I have the 2006 version of Solidworks. Ive been reading through this thread, and some of your work is great. I cant get my autocad to do 3d anything. If anyone has any tips on getting started or cad files I can upload into autocad or solidworks to play with let me know.

P.S. I've never been able to get Solidworks to work on my pc, any tips?

your best bet is to try and get a tutorial book to do 3d in CAD. Easiest way to learn it.

I have a couple parts drawn in 3d.

Masher 2k
tekin rebel 2
2215 receiver
hpi split 5 wheel
traxxas wheel
clod axles
servos
mgt shock and spring
maxx shock and spring
traxxas rod ends
C-cell battery
AA cell batter
Lathe motor (not fully detailed but for approx sizing)
Deans connector

Here are a few images with the parts. The only parts that aren't perfect are the mashers (even though they are really close) and the clod axles which are also REALLY close. The diff case holes are a little off.

Would we be able to start a sticky on the forum here with stock part files in a standard format like dwg or 3ds that we could share? That way we could build up a library of parts. Then we could spend more working on our "real" rigs instead of trying to constantly re-invent them in autocad/inventor/rhino/solidworks/pro-e/alibre etc.

Ive looked over the net for a copy of anyone of these programs but most are infected with viruses or not complete. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to "share" a copy with me.
