| I think you should be fine, you may need to do some hand clean up, but should be able to do fine with a bandsaw for the most part, scroll saws are just not designed for agressive work

| okay. that is good to know. I was starting to think about the width of the blade and thinkin band saw might not work. I guess i am going to pull the trigger on one on craigslist.

buying the band saw tomorrow. cant find metal cutting blades for the scroll saw anywhere. Works great on the Delrin and wood, but im sure it sucks on metal.

With my experience with Ryobi stuff, I wouldn't trust it to cut a straight line to save my life. I'm planning on holding out/saving up for one of those Proxxon saws. I just need more room in my garage first!! |

i cut 1/4 aluminum with mine. just takes time and some burnt fingers i would stay away from trying to cut any steel, i could see that taking forever. |

| Also if your military or prior military you get a discount at any Lowes store in the country. You just have to remember to ask for it. It's like 15 or 20% off. If your not military just find an old salt dog that would be willing to buy it for you.

Hmm... That's my concern. I would imagine it would cut 16 gauge sheet steel reasonably well and that'd be great for the bulk of my RC projects, but I'd like it to handle the occasional 1:1 project, too, and that would require cutting 1/4" steel usually. Were you cutting dry or did you use any wax or cutting fluid? |

1/4" you'll be fine with. I don't use any wax or cutting fluid. Like I said I found if I heat the metal with a propane torch then cut on it it works just fine, and goes a little quicker. I guess I could try some cutting fluid this weekend on one of my projects and let you know if it's any better. Quote:

Thanks! I appreciate the info... I've been searching local ads and was wondering if anyone is familiar with Jet or Kity brand band saws? They appear to sell for some pretty decent money so I am assuming they may be high end, but I've never heard of either. I'm mainly concerned about parts/blade availability. The ones I'm looking at are 12" and 14". Thanks, Tommy |
