You sure.. Have you seen my scrap bin!!!! Couple of 3/8" plates stepping up in diameter to make the die.

I may look into this and give it a try in 1:1 for 1-5/8 or 1-3/4 for kicks before dropping 300.00on a new die for my bender.

I’d really like to see some pictures of your 1:1 bender project, I’m very interested in doing something similar as you are attempting, maybe you could just PM me just to not get out of the way of the thread, many thanks

A piece of 3/16 solid rod just for fun. You can see my plan here for the off set hole, so I can mark out bend angles easier..I think. Time will tell.

Makes a tight bend but I don't like how it's straight on one side and curved coming out of the bend. I think the handle will help since I won't be putting pressure as far out to make a bend. I assume the tubing will be easier to bend too.

I may just drill and tap my welding table so I can just bolt this down to it when I want to use it instead of using my vise.
Okay, I finally got around to making a handle and, yes, it makes a huge difference. Both in the amount of effort and the control of the bend.
Very simple, a piece of old pool fence and a piece of steel with a few holes and a 1/4" pin.

Put the 9/16 hole over the head of the shoulder bolt and pull.

In this case I went a bit past 180º

Nice tight bend. It'll take some practice to make anything worth a $#it but at least I won't have to work so hard to waste steel. I'll pick up some tubing and give it a go soon.

if you have the ability to tighten the bolt and washer down on the tube, that will help it not to kink....that is what i do to get 1/4" to not kink, but i still get the flat on the inside of the bolt/coller....i use a 5/16" bolt with 3/8" brakeline for the coller....just gotta work with it and see what works best .........bob

brake line works for me if I tighten the washer on to the line so it cant slide around the die. oh on a side not I was bending solid rod with my bender the other day and it was hard enough that it deformed the collar. now it resembles an actual die

Insread of using a flat shim around the bolt,, try a smaller bolt with a round die with the 5/16 or 3/8 deep grove machined in it ,should get rid of the flat spot ....Robert,,KMS,,,

my version of the bob bender... welded 2 fender washers together, bought the size smaller than i needed and drilled it out so it fit the bolt tighter... did the same on the spacers... rounded the spacers on the corner of a grinding wheel... made the handle from an old brake pedal arm
