| BCuP-3
I started to tinker around with brazing bumpers, rock slidders, and tube frames and the silver solder gets very expensive. I was paying around $27 a troy ounce. I work in a weld shop and I asked our gas supplier about an alternative brazing alloy. He told me to use something called BCuP-3. I picked up a 1lb. tube for $42.99. BCuP don't flow quite as smooth as the silver solder does but it seems to do the job and is way cheaper. Has anyone else tried to use this stuff and what are your thoughts on it? What is the reason everyone that does brazing use silver solder? |

Looks interesting, I'd like to hear some more reviews on it for this specific application. It'd be nice to have a cheaper alternative to SS. Any toxic fumes or anything we might need to worry about?

I have some BCup-5 readily available. I'll have to try it out.

That looks like the stuff we use at for brazing low pressure water and drain pipes at work. I work for a company that builds Submarines and Aircraft Carriers. There are no toxic fumes and works real well. I have a few rods of it for small projects around the house. I am planning on using it when I try my hand at brazing up my scale chassis.

You should also look at Bridgit from Harris. It's stronger than than Stay-brite 8, just takes a little more heat. But works like a soft solder. It can be used in High pressure HVAC systems. I've used it before and it works great. You can get around a pound for about $30.00.
