Default my solid rod bender

so i've been looking for a way to bend up my shock hoops for my honcho tube chassis and i tried the 3 bolts in a vise trick but the vise is worn and it only grabbed 2 bolts tight.. so i had to come up with a different way.

so i cut a chunk of 1/8" plate in a 6x6" square then cut another 2x3 or 4" (didnt measure it) welded them in a T shape, then i scrumaged some round stock that i had laying around the shop and cut 3 pieces the same length. then i drilled some holes in the plate stuck the round stock through the holes then welded them..

i can bend 1/4" solid rod with ease. here's some pictures.

^^ the underside.

i bent these up within a few minutes.
shock hoops for the honcho.

thanks for looking.. it wasnt meant to look pretty it was meant for function.

If it works, who cares what it looks like! Plus, the price was right. I'm also looking into making a bender similar to this minus the welding part, don't have a welder. Didn't think to use the solid rod............mmmmm, got me thinking now.

ya it works great.. if you need a smaller bend then use the 2 bigger pieces as your "anchor" and use the single piece to bend around. i'll play around with it a little more tomorrow.

ya i got a MIG welder that i can use (live at my parents house i use dad's welder), horizontal/vertical bandsaw etc.

I made one of these yesterday, made a roll bar for the Bronco I'm building. I picked up some steel spacers today that fit over the "pins" so I can increase the bend diameter. Here's the roll bar I built, made it out of 3/16.

the plan is to build a chassis from 1/4" solid rod (with minimal bracing to keep weight down) and toss my honcho parts (axles, servo, receiver, motor, spur gear, everything) on this chassis then hand form an aluminum body in the shape of a 1979 F150, it will have a little shorter wheelbase then the stock honcho.
