How to join steel to aluminum? So I am attempting to build an XR tuber and have run into a hiccup. I was originally gonna try brazing the steel tube top to the stock aluminum side plates. I came to realize that I've never seen this done. Google has turned up vague answers. My question is "is it possible to braze aliumi um to steel?" My other options would be to JB Weld the two sections together, or weld tabs to the steel section so that I can bolt it to the aluminum side plates. I need input please. Someone please help. Thanks |
a mechanical joint ( bolts, ect..) is the only real good answer. |

Bolting it is probably the best choice. jb weld has its places but I doubt this is one of them |

the only way ive seen any way to fuse to different alloys (steel & aluminum) is blast welding. they put two different plates on top of one other, cover them with a lot of explosive & a BIG BOOM. fuses the two together. |
Looks like Scorpion King is going to need an M80 then:ror: |
M80 thats good stuff right there"thumbsup" |
Ive seen it done with a few different alloys other than blast welding, but its more like a spot weld. It also involves some really expensive machines. Good luck. |

I'll pass on blast welding though. I appreciate my dashing good looks a bit too much:ror: |
