Has anyone come up with some kind of notching jig for tube. I have an idea but was looking for any other ideas that are out there.

With the size of the tube, I do it by hand with a dremel or a chainsaw file of the proper size. There are just so many joints in a tuber, it seems to take longer using a jig because of how easy and fast each fishmouthing is without it.

Chainsaw file. Thought about making a fixture for it awhile back, but it's so easy to hold the tube between the thumb and index finger that I never bothered.

i use a dremel with a router attachment mounted to a 3/4" pine board through a 1/2" hole....then a hardened carbide cutter in 3/16" dia through said hole with a block of wood up against it so that my notch is centered on my tube i'm using....turn dremel on and bout 5/10 seconds it's done....if i need it angled i use the 1/4" sanding drums then by hand.........bob .... |

Thanks for all the replies fellas. Sorry I couldn't reply sooner. All of the input helps. I have been doing all my notchs by hand with no problems, Since it is faster by hand I will just keep doing the same thing.

Also, I like the Old World Craftsman feel of doing it by hand...makes me feel like a blacksmith or something | |

Actually the chainsaw sharpener stone holds up pretty well as long as you don't just dig it in.. Let the stone do the work and it'll last for a while... The kit is only like 5$ at Walmart J-bird |
