chassis; rod or tubing?

Just curios as to what your guys opinions might be on chassis building. I want to try my hand at a custom chassis but not sure which is the best route to go, tube or rod or both. I have had a little experience in brazing sliders and bumpers but nothing like a complete chassis.
When using rod do you have to fishmouth like tube? Can you braze the rod well enough or do you have to start with a tack weld and then finish up with brazing?

I wouldn't use solid rod for the main parts of the chassis...too heavy. I do use 1/8" solid for smaller sections, and I do try to fishmouth them a bit. I silver solder everything and have not had to tack first...just hold it in position and let it flow.

fish mouth? Is that just notching the ends?

Yes, more or less...I try to make the notch match the shape, angle and size of the tube it's going to join.

Thanks for the clarification, just was a new name for the same thing. Definately worth the effort for a strong joint that also looks good.
