Look up the Harris Company on the internet, call them. They will give you a list of suppliers in your area.

I have yet to find a on-line supplier

Check your phone book for a US Airgas store. They are a Harris dealer, and have stores all over the country. They also have a pretty fair web site if you can't find anything local.

Fishmaxx, I started with 1t.o. (31g) roll. It was $14 or $15 bucks at the welding shop here in town. Shoot me an e-mail if you want it.

Its a fair price, and it would save me a few bucks. I can get it locally at 2-3 places.

I will give someone else a chance that has a harder time getting it. If no else wants it I may get it in a week or two.

I really want the 45T. It has a lower melting point than the regular 45

Sounds good fishmax. I found that the melting point on this (1150) is too low for my torch (1850) so it is a bit difficult for me to work with. I found that flux coated brass brazing rod seems to work the best.

I do have a smaller torch that doesn't put out as much heat so I may give it another try.

Alloy>>>>>>>>>>>>Melting Range
-------------------------Solidus.....Liquidus
Safety-Silv 56............1145.........1200
Safety-Silv 40............1150.........1350
Safety-Silv 45............1250.........1370
Safety-Silv 45T..........1195.........1265
Safety-Silv 25............1265.........1430

I have been using the 45 which has a higher temp.

Maybe I should try some 56

I just bought 3 oz of 45. I will trade you a sample of 45 for some 56.

Its great that you newbies search, and this is proof that some do right here, but you have to realize that sometimes you are reading old threads..............Please check the date of the thread before you post.......

Red- I would rather them bring back an old post to keep all the info in one post, than to have 1,000 posts asking the same question.

It doesn't take much per joint. I'd say a little under 1/2" of 1/16 per joint. Anymore and it likes to pool up on the bottom side of the joint. I think I could build two+ TLT comp chassis with a 1oz roll. One whole roll would get you a chassis so beef cake that you could prolly drive your truck over it and not bend it.

Try this once. Take tow short pieces of brake line and fishmouth one end. Butt then together at a right angle and braze it up. Let it cool and try to pull it apart like a wishbone. That'll tell you how strong the stuff is. I show that to people and it actually bends the brake line instead of breaking the joint! That test right there sold me on the stuff. Before I was using this other Harris solder that was like $7.50/oz, but you could pull it apart.

I have done some searches and some asking in my welding supply stores and they are tellign me that Safety Silv 56 is actually a soldering and not brazing. I have searched all over for brazing supplies and all I can find for actual brazing is regular copper colored brazing rod or flux coated brazing rod. Heck for all that matters a coat hanger will do the same thing.

So is it actual brazing or soldering?

I just got a Mapp and Oxy setup and for actual brazing I need to use the oxy to get things hot enough to actually braze. No way can I get things actually hot enough to actually braze just using Mapp. Now soldering is a different story.
