Question Brazing help! Adding to existing joint? Joint Repair?

The problem I have is when trying to add a new joint up against an existing joint or when trying to repair a joint. I cant get the Silv45 to flow. I wire brush and clean the area before applying the flux. Any ideas or tips you guys use?

Thanks

What fuel are you using in your torch?

I have a Bernzomatic 8250 with MAPP gas. When I lay my first joint it comes out perfect. Its only when adding to a joint or when fixing one I have the problems. Am I not cleaning it enough? Do you have to clean down to the metal or will the silv45 bond to existing silv45?

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it's not clean enough. Maybe it's the old flux from the first joint? Try washing the old flux off before scrubbing the area with your wire brush or 3M pad.

I havent tried to use a cleaning solvent on it before I go at it with the wire brush. I will give it a go today. Thanks.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to do when this happens but when I am joining multiple tubes at the same spot I do it all at once. My guess is that you arent getting the joint hot enough, that is what typically causes it not to flow.

The problem with adding another tube to an existing joint is that once you heat it then the original joint will get screwed up.

So I went to town on it with a wire brush. Noticed that i still had a clear/white hard coating on some of the metal. It looks like I didnt get all the melted flux off. Once I got it down to bare metal and clean old Silv, I put down some flux, heated it up, put down some new Silv and it was good to go. I even filled some voids I had. Check out the work I did today.
