I was looking at it but didnt know how capable it was or if you could save the files in a format machine shops could use.

I think compatibility would depend on the machine shop...I have no clue about such things. I just wanted it to do some accurate but basic 2d drawings that I can print out. The 3d stuff is fun but a bit tedious for me. Still gonna play with it though. |

I checked it out last week but haven't had the time to sit and mess with it since. Between building and my horrible addiction to this forum I have little time for anything else And that 4 link you designed on your scratcher is sick by the way Last edited by CreepyCrawl; 02-16-2010 at 12:09 PM. |

Hi, I'm new here and to RC, SU Is a very user friendly interface and pretty easy to pick, the learning curve is very fast. I use it at work for Arch. applications / 3d modeling, the best part is there is a free version and it all the tools of the pro version, you will need to buy the pro version if you want to export to DWG or other software applicaitons. It is a blast to mess around with. cisco |

the company I work for does renderings for control room layouts with it so customers can see what they are getting, easier than CADD and we can convert it to DWG when we are finished

i personally dont like sketchup, but that's because i had a decent amount of CAD experience before i started using it, so its limitations were screaming at me.

I use it for 2D stuff all the time. Small parts that I pass on to the laser cutter. You can only save to a dxf file if you pay for the upgraded version. Otherwise you're stuck with the google format or exporting to a picture file. Luckily, as long as I dimension everything, my laser cutter is fine with just a picture file.

| After you select the circle tool, you can type in how many sides you want the circle to have. You can see the number it is currently using in the bottom right.
