Default Free MIT education

I have become obsessed with milling, and machine work thanks to Rob_b (thanks jerk). I have zero knowledge or experience with this type of work so I have been on an info hunt for about 3 weeks now. I ran across these videos and they have answered a ton of my questions. Don't know if this has been posted before, but here is a link to a series of free MIT shop videos that are a goldmine of tips, tricks, & how to in the machine shop. This link will take you to the series and you can watch what is relevant to you.

Thanks for the link. I actually have about 90 hours and counting of machine shop experience and the videos will be indispensable when I have to make prototypes in my line of work out of my CAD drawings again. It's an excellent reference to say the least.

Surprised it took that long. He gets incredibly long winded at times, but just when you think you are going to fast forward he drops a technique or trick and the light bulb goes on, or gets brighter.

glad this is helping some people out.

It was all good stuff, and he kept things interesting, but as with anything there comes a time when the instructor needs to talk less and do more.

It's all good stuff. I went to school for 2 yrs to be a machinist. Wish I had a teacher that good. I had to learn from experience and the internet to get anything useful out of the school.

I'm glad he talked about not using the drill press as a milling machine. That topic has come up here a number of times where people want to buy an XY table and mill on their drill press.

I had to laugh at the part where he said someone clamped the 1" drill wrong, and the possible damage it can do...those are the people I work with

This is a great way to spend a slow afternoon at work.
And to think I knew how to drill a hole.
