Got mine today. Ground the tip down a bit, turned it on to make sure it worked. I think its going to do real well for me. Now I just need something to solder.

I decided not to cheap out on something that I use so much. So much less frustration with the Hakko FX888 station that i got. I no longer fear large wires and deans connectors any more!

Yeah I have to agree, save up for the real deal. Def worth it in the end! Make sure to use a brass sponge, much safer for your tip then a sponge.

Bringing this thread BTTT. I just got mine today and have been soldering allot of stuff with it. I really need to order some new tips though this small one makes it hard to do much.

Found this on youtube. Didn't see it referenced in my quick read of this thread. Pretty good comparison of the HK and the Hakko. The rest is up to you.

I have been looking at these for a while and have read all the reviews but in the end I decided on the new Hakko FX-888d. I know it is a lot more expensive but I really need/want a decent soldering set up and I can get parts and tips for this very easy. I had the Hobbyking one in my cart ready to buy but backed out. I hope I will like the Hakko and it has to be a million time better than my Radio Shack POS. Soldering with that thing always seemed like a chore instead of something I wanted to do.

The wife would have liked the Hobbyking one better(price) but oh well.

These are in stock again @ the USA warehouse. Got mine a week ago. Works pretty good. I have to play with the heating dial a bit to get the heating light to go red. It works and I don't solder too much. Well worth the 16 bucks I paid for it. Got my order in 6 days! That's a HK world record!

I have been using it to solder micro Deans for my micro SCT's and it worked well. Now when I have to to somne TRX or regular Deans I'm gonna be in trouble w/ this tiny pencil soldering tip. Many on the HK sight say to use Hakko clone tips from China for this Yihua station. I have some tips on order from E*bay. I hope they work.

I bought two - one for me and one for Dad. One showed up with a broken handle and the temperature knob was installed upside down.

Typical Chinese crap, but I'll just order another one and use this for 'spares'.

Got mine a few weeks ago. I got to be superdad and fixed one of my 7 month old daughter's toys with it. I'm amazed by how quickly it heats up, as I'm used to the cheap pencil irons. I did solder a few Deans connectors and I think a different tip will help. So far, it's been worth what I've spent on it.

Ordered one last Sunday and it still hasn't shipped. HK is no RPP that's for sure. I hate waiting on stuff.

How is that soldering iron for fine stuff? I find the need to do the LED light strips and 20 or 40 watts on my radio shack iron tend to be too hot. I think the bigger issue is the handle isn't very small or easy to control. How is the handle on this iron? I'm considering getting one and with HK shipping you need to get a bunch of stuff to make it worth it.
