| Superglue for metal jigging
I want to super glue some pieces together then tig weld them later. Has anyone done this before? I guess worse case I glue the center of the joint - tig tack weld the outer ends then wire brush and clean the super glue off. I can see mig just burning through the super glue, but I could also see the tig allowing the glue to penetrate the metal. What you guys think? |

I would think the burning glue would make your eyes water so bad you wouldnt be able to see to weld,,, |

Highly doubt it. Not using a whole bottle of glue. Talking about using a couple drips.

Easiest thing is to make a test piece if you're not sure in the results. But it shouldn't be much difference from MIG. I say give it a go. |

I've heard of people using hot glue to hold parts together before welding.

Thanks guys. I wish I could try it before I comment. Just alot of time into this chassis - just gonna pull the trigger and super glue it - I'll just try and donut sparingly.

I've used CA ( "super glue") to tack together parts I've bent from tubing so that I can get everything clamped down on the brazing plate. You want to wear safety glasses and a respirator, the smallest amount of vaporized CA glue can coat you eyes or throat causing serious damage.

| Re: Superglue for metal jigging I havent tried yet - still waiting on my TIG welder to get here. Quote:
I have also had the idea to stich weld majority of the chassis and parts, rc parts dont seem to really need to be fully welded. that would actually keep me from welding over any superglue as long as i preplan it all out. Last edited by doublej; 06-06-2012 at 04:42 PM. Reason: dum dum | |
