| At what temp does brakeline glow red?
I am going to be using a soldering iron to try and attach some piano wire to part of a cage I am building and I need to know what temp to set my soldering iron to get the metal hot enough to fuse like it would if I was using a torch with brakeline. What would you guys recommend? I will still be using the Saftey-Silv flux and 45 silver i used on the tube.

How hot does your iron get? 45 flows alil over 1200°. I dont know if a iron can keep the pcs hot enough. Have you tried a torch? I had to heat tube first then brought flame around just enough to get wire. Its a pita.

Ah, crap. I guess I will have to use the torch after all. I just didn't want to burn up the piano wire trying to get it soldered onto the tube. Like you you said, I am sure it is going to be a pita. Thanks.

I did some 1/16" music wire, and if i got the tube up to temp, the wire got there real quick, just by hitting it with the edge of the flame. If you have a fine tip for your torch it would be alot easier, but of course I don't lol

How about dropping a ball of solder on the spot where you want to attach the wire, heat the ball of solder and while the solder is still hot or in liquid form, placeing the wire in it before it sets up/cools down and gets hard? The wire is such a small diameter the heat from the solder in liquid form should heat it up enough that the solder will stick to it and your not haveing to heat the wire up by itself. Just an idea, I myself have never tried to braze something so small. |
